Patti covering Ronettes
@Lawdie
Didn’t get this tag but what a powerhouse
Can’t believe movie got greenlit but especially can’t believe they test screened that and nobody decided to cut that out
It’s all supposed to be campy as f***. It’s literally a movie for kids.

Every single interviewee on this Spector documentary from 1983 absolutely slandering him after a few words about his talent
i don't think I've ever seen somebody so reviled in the business
Ramones let him f***in have it
Joey remained respectfully quiet however
Cruella's mom gets f***ing dropkicked off a cliff by dalmatians
lmfao that’s dope
yeh they both count. Gong is more spacey and unique and not based in canterbury but still count, Daevid Allen was an og member of Soft Machine and they had Steve Hillage who was in a bunch of bands (also in Arzachel) and Pip Pyle briefly who was in a bunch of canterbury bands too
Arzachel aka Uriel were one of the earliest bands of the scene so they were more psych than most
Ok caravan sophomore is real nice
Do they really sound this much like Soft Machine or is Wyatt just lending that much vocal assistance

its just how they sound, dont think it derives from Wyatt himself. since the whole scene started from the band the Wilde Flowers which had Soft Machine's' Wyatt, Ayers, and Hopper along with all 4 of Caravan's members at various points before they splintered. I feel like they all probably concocted the style together
Im not a huge Altman fan, but was Short Cuts any good ? I recently finished reading some Raymond Carver, great author, and noticed some of the "short cuts" were based on his work. Interested to see if Carver's minimalistic and dry take on daily life translates well on the screen

Didn’t he basically kidnap the Ramones at gunpoint?

I've only watched it once and it wasn't quite enough for the film's whole effect to sink in but I definitely think you would dig it if only because of the 90s aesthetic that you love

Yeah that's what dd implied in the interview

I haven’t seen that one yet…there’s no way it isn’t a clossic with that cast though
One day, Spector pushed Johnny too far. The producer demanded that the guitarist play the opening G-major chord of “Rock & Roll High School” over and over. The engineer would play the chord back and Spector stomped around the studio yelling, “Shit, piss, f***! S***, piss, f***!” Then he’d demand that Johnny hit the chord again. This went on for an hour or more, until Johnny got fed up. He finally put down his guitar and said he was leaving. Spector told him he wasn’t going anywhere. Johnny replied, “What are you gonna do, Phil, shoot me?” The bandmates had a meeting with Spector and told him they could no longer work with him if he was going to keep displaying the same temperament. “Nobody was enjoying any of it,” Joey said. “We were all pissed off with his antics, high drama, and the insanity.”
From what I can tell Joey was always the chill one. Everytime I've seen him interviewed he's just like

Yeah they should own it a little more tho considering they just wanted to "do an album with a big producer" and they ignored all the stories about Phil and dove in anyway

Definitely a shady old man but he was the king of the music business between Buddy Holly dying and the British Invasion showing up when he was in his early 20s
The amount of his girl group jams Scorsese has used
