Hypothetically if there’s 15 teams or whatever who are able to concentrate the best players within the league and play weekly against each other there’s 0 chance people boycott watching it
People who respect or care about the integrity of the sport will most likely, yanks who know nothing about the game will lap it up
This is the ESL's target audience, hence announcing this at 12am EU time
But realistically the ESL is likely here to stay, and the outrage will disperse over time.
but clearly the end result of this would be completely disregarding the domestic leagues. it's a 23-year contract. why would the owners care about the domestic leagues when there's no incentive to perform well in it? meanwhile they have their brain child to worry about.
they want european football to be like the the NFL. They want one competition with the big name teams and nothing more than that.
Yeah I agree
from the information present
I’d predict the teams in the super league to only play within their league
And the teams not included in this super league would continue with their own leagues etc but almost become the equivalent of an academy for the super league teams to buy their best players
Perceived status and how much money these foreign owners can pump into the game;
"France ready to look into EU law to help UEFA sanction dissident clubs" - (LeParisien)
Surely UEFA have to either void the Champions League or give it to Porto, PSG had insider information all this was going to go down.

https://twitter.com/danielyates_/status/1383920258369548293@02Shaq basically this
they can’t even compete so they created their own thing
Why would it be glorified friendlies lol
Teams would still compete to be the best in the league
Because none of those 15 founder teams earned their place in the competition. They got handpicked, just like in a friendly.
No threat of relegation and a secure stream of money won't exactly promote competiton either

https://twitter.com/danielyates_/status/1383920258369548293Lol if these teams aren’t as important as they think they are the league will surely die then correct?
Please stop romanticising the Munich Air Disaster. It's like saying Emiliano Sala died for Cardiff City, it's cheap messaging, and it's not like the sanctimony of the European Cup hasn't already been breached.
I am doing no such thing. It is a sign of how the owners of this club have no regard for the history & meaning of the tournament for this club.
PES remontada
I wouldn’t be surprised to see PES being the main sponsers so they can get the super league rights
Because none of those 15 founder teams earned their place in the competition. They got handpicked, just like in a friendly.

Goes against the spirit and merit of the game entirely. Disgrace.

This, its a strong way of putting the point across but its valid in every sense
I’m glad this s***s happening. Getting me re-interested in soccer. Used to play back in HS. Feel like putting my cleats on & practicing down at a pitch somewhere.

Damn
This would be like if the lakers, Knicks, nets, heat, Celtics, etc split from the rest of the NBA and made a league

Raptors would destroy wtvs left lmaooo
“NOOO DONT LEAVE US IN HERE WITH THEM!!”
VanVleet smiling from the 3 point line
Damn

exactly
So your argument is UEFA bad = let’s go ahead with the ESL?
Lol if these teams aren’t as important as they think they are the league will surely die then correct?
at the end of the day, it's called the Super League for a reason
while these clubs aren't always successful, they are the biggest and most storied clubs in their respective leagues. That's the beauty of football, in a sense. Everyone has a shot to be better than the big boys every year.
Because none of those 15 founder teams earned their place in the competition. They got handpicked, just like in a friendly.

If the comparison is to American sports leagues they don’t lack competition
The nba in a sense lack competition but that’s primarily due to different sizes of markets which wouldn’t be an issue here as pretty much all of these clubs are “super” regardless of their recent trophy history
