i personally, wish drake would mature a bit and make songs that are more relatable

and i personally believe, that if he did it would be better for his fanbase because more people would be able to relate to him and enjoy his music because even if they dont relate, nothing would come off to scream otherwise

now, does that mean drake is "supposed to" or "should"? nah his life is his life

Yea this is essentially it. He doesn't have to do anything. It's his life.

But you see the massive turn on him happening in real time. His fanbase is only getting older. Those young kids he's trying to appeal to think 1) he's an oldhead and 2) all sorts of crazy accusations now because of the beef.

I think FATD was the first time where people were like this dude needs to grow up. I think what put people over the edge was dissing Rihanna and Meg on Her Loss. That was the nail in the coffin.

    Pusha was 2018.

Headlines was always polarizing. People always thought that catch a body line was disingenuous by Drake. But rappers always talk like that, which is fine. I get sprinkling it in. It's part of the art.

But to say his tough guy bars didn't increase after the Pusha 2018, I'd heavily disagree with that. He said it himself. He was quiet as a mouse, till now.

So Drake all of a sudden became tough because people around him are willing to be yes men because of his money, status, etc? Yea it feels disingenuous. Who is he trying to fool exactly? That's why Kendrick calling it out was so obvious and so easy.

Drake being a Millionaire with pull is standard for every rapper ever except Drake. Or they are all killers who sold crack f*** me.

remember when like every teenager ever genuinely believed drake killed X, my little cousin told me that when i played Drake in the car lmfao

younger generation definitely isnt jumping on drake the same way we did

For All the Dogs Spotify day 1 streams - 108.6 million

Death of Slim Shady Spotify day 1 streams - 63.5 million

And to think the biggest hiphop release of this year isn't even close to last year's but they think Drake wouldn't be able to do that again

    Drake is Canadian
    Drake is mixed
Drake went to a private school
Drake grew up lower middle class
    Drake is Jewish
    Drake is light skinned
Drake is not / has not claimed a gang
Drake has not gone to jail/prison

He has nothing to hide behind.
He's just him and that's it.
    He's simping over his ex.
    He's taking your girl.
He's pulling favors for the street.
    He's laughing at the game
He's wishing the game loved him back.
He's unironically doing all the I'm a complete conflicted person that Kendrick does
But when Kendrick does it it's real when Drake does It, it's an act a response or not real.

Cause you would know more than Cash Cobain credited producer/writer (who has credited writing due to production). You got it though it's true Cash Cobain gave him calling for you his discog in shambles.

Lol. I don't know how you can listen to the reference track and think it's AI.

You can also listen to Drake's version and know this isn't his style or his "language" at all.

Of course Cash has incentive to have a good working relationship with Drake. He doesn't want to burn any bridges.

But what about Jumbotron, which is clearly Yachty, and Mob Ties. Are those AI as well?

    It's lazy.

    Didn't even diss meg.
She spent that morning arguing her fans about how it want a diss then deleted those tweets and decide it was thanks to (Roc Nation not that you'll believe me.)

Was talking about a Russian Stripper ergo shorty don't get the joke causa she wouldn't be aware of an American news story. She herself responded no I don't have the proof. Article / IG exists somewhere

Both credited whole 2nd verse on Mob Ties appears no where on the ref. 1st verse has various changes or words taken out.

Yeah idk Wayne and Future are older and aren't held to this same standard so when rap heads be like "Drake needs to grow up" it always felt disingenuous. Travis is almost as old as the big 3 and he's still doing the same s*** since Owl Pharaoh. Drake don't need to grow up but honestly ngl the Yeat, Teezo, Yachty features on FATD felt... trying too hard idk how to explain it

I put less emphasis on Her Loss because it's with 21 Savage, has a mixtape feel, etc. Going in, you knew what to expect. It was going to be flexing, I don't care bars, etc.

Keep in mind I enjoy listening to Her Loss and FATD (More so Her Loss). But that doesn't mean me as a listener can't look at these songs and go man I wish this dude grew up sooner than later and provided something different. Only so long he can collab with people like Cash Cobain, Yeat, Sexxy Redd, get dressed by Yachty etc, before he's looked at as a dude stuck in the past.

The thing for me is this is just all entertainment at the end of they day. Drake has never put himself on a pedestal and positioned himself as a person you want to strive and be. He's not preaching or selling spirituality and saying do this and don't do that.

Drake is a smart dude and even as early as Take Care he was extremely well aware that fame wouldn't last forever. He's also completely aware that a normal person won't be able to relate to him. I think it's why you do get a lot of similar topics. I think Drake has done an amazing job spinning them into something new and different tho.

I think it's why when you do get something introspective it's always amazing because Drake never puts it as a "learn from my mistakes." He just says it and you as the audience can do whatever you want with it.

I think the hardest part for any artist is making music about maturing. How can you make a topic like that and still relate to your younger audience? Because in reality what's fun about maturing? It's just a hard topic to make a hip-hop album about.

ah, yeah you just said what ive been tryna say or explain the whole time, "why make that the theme of your album" (or a more broad "alot of your music now")

Is it really the theme of the album tho? It rung true to me at first when I was reading the back and forth, but then I sort of unpacked the lyrics on that run between 7969 Santa - Drew a Picasso.

For one, it's only 5 tracks out of 23, so to say that's the theme of the whole album isn't super accurate.

I'd say that Slime You Out in particular doesn't read as lacking self awareness, the whole point of the SZA verse is to reflect the other side of a toxic relationship.

Tried Our Best is about the regret of wasting time on another failed relationship, pretty universal feeling,

Bahamas Promises is about being sad that a relationship didn't work out and not wanting to put in the work to patch it back together, again pretty universal.

I'd say Drew a Picasso and 7969 are the most "immature." But again, that feeling you have immediately after a break up where you're convinced that the other person has made a massive mistake and would be nothing without you is a pretty universal experience.

Breakups bring out the immaturity in people, so what's the harm of reflecting that immaturity in music?

Maybe Drake is held to a higher standard? Isn't that what his fans want? Isn't that what he wants. Deep down he's a rap nerd. He wants to be at that table with the GOATS.

I never understood this comparing him to those guys, such as Future.

His direct peers are Cole and Kendrick as well. That adds to it.

It’s almost the very racism and xenophobia they accuse Drake of ironically. Because they see him as an outsider its like they think he’s better than his peers and expect more from him, but THEY (Wayne, Future, etc) get to act that way because thats as much as you can expect from them, i.e. ignorance and low barriers to entry and content. .

It’s very funny what the public expects of certain people.

I think having the SZA verse on Slime You Out is pretty self aware and showing that he knows that there's always another side to the coin.

It would be silly to expect that he has to demonstrate that self awareness by including a verse showing the other side on every other track where he touches on the same topic in the album.
