im not arguing he cant rap about it ever and never should have before, just trying to say itd be nice to see the themes "maturity" grow the same way his fanbases has over time

I used to think Drake was a smart dude, but the way he has moved these last few years, doesn't make him seem smart at all.

Maybe his ego got so big he didn't think he would ever have a downfall. But I can't agree he's been smart these last few years at all.

which ironically shows that hes basically a smart dude. He wants to literally just bullshit around but “the people” won’t let him.

It’s like they literally dont want him around certain artists or making certain music. It’s very weird. It’s like we know this is a phase and we’re waiting for him on the other side of it.

I’ve never seen anything like it, to be honest. People legit dont even want drake’s career to end, they just want different content.

Thats whats so weird about all of this. They’re holding a space for him to grow into and Drake is trying to fill all angles and people have basically decided that they want him to go in a direction.

but man, hes been rapping about these same things for like 6 years now, so if the idea is its something he can work on or change, at what point is he going to learn to not keep doing it?

It's because this subject matter sells.

A huge part of Drake's audience is women and they want to feel validated as well. I think sometimes the best way to do that is make yourself the bad guy in your songs.

Another interesting tidbit I was always curious about, all the pill bars the last few years. When did he become such a pill head? Why is he going down that path as he gets older?

    Face tats late 30s.

Dressing in reverse in his late 30s. Trying to dress like a Gen Z person. Look at the guy and his appearance during the Views era to now.

I can't be the only one noticing these things.

again just to be crystal clear before it gets brought up

im not in control of drakes life decisions like taking pills, pop as many as you like, im just saying i wonder if that has had an impact on his music which i used to enjoy but not as much now

He def will have a few records here and there showing maturity, like any timestamp record. But piecing together an entire theme of maturity is difficult with the amount of audiences he has to cater for

He's literally been awaiting the downfall

I was on top WHEN that s*** meant a lot, STILL on top like im scared of the drop.

Yea but this beef that just happened that has been simmering for a decade plus, showed how unprepared he truly was.

He wanted this right? He was waiting for it right? So why did he have mishap after mishap?

I think his ego got so big he really thought that top dog status was forever. This is probably the first time the general public opinion on Drake has been so anti-Drake

Literally half this country hates Jews right now lol

A lot of this has nothing to do with the artists or the songs

Sorry to bring him up when we're not talking about him but look at Kendrick with Mr. Morale. Most of that album is about mature topics and the reply value of it isn't great.

That subject matter is hard to make songs about. Drake knows most people can't relate to him so he tries to keep it on a level where most people can.

I agree. But he's Drake. He's one of the biggest artists of all time. Why don't you attempt to shift the "culture"

You're that big, you're that talented, you should be able to have the audience sit with your body of work, rather than catering to the audience.

The biggest artists in any genre are the tastemakers.

So why won't he? It takes a lot of balls and a lot of work to do it. His 20+ song albums he makes now he knows are going to stream like crazy and make him big money.

And I hate to bring up Kendrick, but Kendrick's albums never feel like he's catering to the audience. He makes what he wants to.

Yeah brother he was sending sub on Control for every rapper worth mentioning. He got on BET Cypher and subbed Drake for two minutes. Drake def asked for this. Has he kept responding to Kendricks subs. Who sent the first sub. But yeah he asked 👍

Lol they have been trading subs for a decade plus. Drake wanted it. How many subs has Drake thrown Kendrick's way?

If you don't think Drake wanted it, you don't know him and how much of a rap nerd he is. He always felt like he was a better rapper than Kendrick, but Kendrick always got the praise from the rap purists. This is something Drake at least early on his career craved.

He wanted to prove that Kendrick was nothing compared to him. He's been calling him out and subbing him for years, just as Kendrick has.

When the time came, he folded. He didn't seem prepared at all. You'd think he would've been significantly better prepared.

    I

I mean Drake makes what he wants to.

He doesn't really cater to anyone. If he was trying to keep everyone happy he wouldn't have had the line about Rihanna and Meg. Also Honestly Nevermind. Nobody expected that from him.

Kendrick has sorta locked himself into a box if we're being honest.

    I

I guess I’m not 100% sure what you’re wanting from him your statement.
Personally I feel like him hopping on waves which people hate him for ultimately popularize that wave even more
He hops on a cash cobain beat last year, now look how many artists are making cash cobain records.
Shoot, I feel like even back in 2016 and him doing one dance/controlla popularized that genre to the max and was different for him at the time and he doesn’t get credit for it.
Unless he’s supposed to just make a new genre of music up I’m not sure what else he should do😭

What you want him to do, dress in a suit and tie? Being fair here let's look at his peers. Cole cosplays as a homeless man, Future dresses in the same chains and watches for a decade, Kendrick dressing like a Balenciaga knockoff model, Travis bites Rocky's swag, Big Sean and Cudi have 0 originality or drip at all. The whole game don't know how to dress, I actually like Drake's 2022 style since he founded VAVA and it's basically his own custom tailor. He ain't wearing much gen z brands too much if you look at his fits closely

The thing for me is this is just all entertainment at the end of they day. Drake has never put himself on a pedestal and positioned himself as a person you want to strive and be. He's not preaching or selling spirituality and saying do this and don't do that.

Drake is a smart dude and even as early as Take Care he was extremely well aware that fame wouldn't last forever. He's also completely aware that a normal person won't be able to relate to him. I think it's why you do get a lot of similar topics. I think Drake has done an amazing job spinning them into something new and different tho.

I think it's why when you do get something introspective it's always amazing because Drake never puts it as a "learn from my mistakes." He just says it and you as the audience can do whatever you want with it.

I think the hardest part for any artist is making music about maturing. How can you make a topic like that and still relate to your younger audience? Because in reality what's fun about maturing? It's just a hard topic to make a hip-hop album about.

For All the Dogs Spotify day 1 streams - 108.6 million

Death of Slim Shady Spotify day 1 streams - 63.5 million

And to think the biggest hiphop release of this year isn't even close to last year's but they think Drake wouldn't be able to do that again

to be fair fatd had more songs

Do you guys think Drake is capable of making another Views or Take Care? or is he simply at a different place in his life and that magic in a bottle can't be captured again?

It only got 2 more songs. Fatd is 23 and Doss has 21. We'll throw in an extra 10 million each (which is a HUGE stretch) 85.5 million vs 108.6 is still a big gap imo

Interesting, I would say CLB/Scorpion is insane but Views really does feel like the best top to bottom production heavy album. Each instrumental on that project is pure cinematic stuff.
