Nah that other album after HTTAM was terrible ngl
They’re tripping about making nothing good since Safe In The Hands tho
cap
I’m 100% with you on the white people thing, i wa gonna comment more on it but didn’t wanna get too personal and make bold assumptions about a stranger.
But I feel like he never grew out of a complex that some black art kids grew up in. You hit the nail on the head with the lack of awareness and having his white friends blow up his ego. I used to do noise sets in undergrad with all that brash ethos of “disrupting white heteronormative spaces”
What i learned from those experiences is that i often was fighting no one but myself. NYC is a very racist place with redlining as bad as some other cities that are notorious for the practice.
Yves gives me the impression, like u said, he has a distorted sense of reality from the 24/7 label funded performance he’s been on for the pat 5/6 years.
While i appreciate the sentiment of trolling a Swedish House Mafia, he doesn’t have the maturity (at his growing age) to let bygones be bygones. F*** those crackers, but you have to find a sense of peace within yourself. Destroying the green room because everyone boo’d you off your noise sets is like beginning of your career s***
I had to realize i can’t be a disruptor and want to reap the fruits of a “normative” life. I think at some point its all gonna catch up to him and he has to accept if he wants to be this iggy pop character forever or grow up a little bit and enjoy the respect he gets from more artistic spaces.
Idk if what im saying makes sense
This is all true but there's also part of reading the room and vibe
If you play out of zone ish you're gonna get boo'ed anywhere
And NYC to out of state artists is known as notoriously aggressive and out spoken that will boo you if they feel like for many decades now - white black spanish and whatever genre
He set his own self up on this one imo - and it wasn't even of his own music from what I've heard, he was just DJing out of crowd ish the entire time while also having terrible audio set ups (a common issue with him) that was supposedly literally hurting people's ears and screwing the mood up causing further agitation
Most artists get their first and sometimes only major boost in NY and LA
You'll be alright overall, it's a right of passage
Nigga in some Get Out coded realm
there’s a shawty he hanging with now that i used to hang out i can assure it’s GET OUT land over there

Creep implies some kind of predatory behavior
Drama queen maybe would’ve been a more responsible term lol
Nah I’ve heard some more salacious stuff too, from multiple people

bizarre thing to say about someone who was a big fan of yves tumor and just doesn't like their music anymore. im not a hater lmfao, im frustrated by the direction they went in
heaven to a tortured mind is the best album of the decade
not even close but go off
Who thought it would be a good idea to have Yves Tumor open for Swedish House Mafia in the first place
You’re such a f***ing dork it hurts
I love ambient sound collage hypnagogic experimental stuff but you’re acting like niggas have to be f***ing Boris to make worthwhile rock music
Critiquing the music for being diatonic is the most try hard s*** ive seen, like nigga what are you serious, u just tryna sound smart rn
At least talk about how sample heavy some of the parts if u wanna say it’s boring, the production is solid the arrangements are solid, there’s really unique and great sounding moments. His last album has had offensively inoffensive pop music in it (that one song that was in Kia commercial) but there was more than enough interesting s*** going on to not warrant such a write off.
it's not the fact that it's diatonic by itself, it's that as a result of that all the songwriting tends to sound the same, which is a common problem with contemporary "experimental" music really especially when you transition to a very conventional style it becomes obvious. harmonically conventional music without other cool ideas/production to dress it up=boring ass "diatonic" music which isn't even a proper term and i kind of regret using it in the first place because it's a sloppy way of putting it but gets across what im trying to say. if you took anything off safe in the hands and gave it generic trap production no one would care about these songs. when you transition into a conventional style and don't have anything else like actually great musicianship or inventive or interesting songwriting to fill the void the experimentalism left behind, you get a guy posing as avant garde but making what amounts to again, badly sung light rock. his lyricism is nothing special either for that matter so there's nothing there that can replace that.
another reason that i pointed out how it's diatonic is because in order to do rock/pop soul/emo right in a way that actually makes it interesting you need to experiment in the songwriting department. it wasn't as important when they were making music that was actually interesting and boundary pushing in other ways, because quite a few of those songs are pretty "diatonic" as well, even ones with otherwise crazy awesome production and other ideas. that's not a problem IN AND OF ITSELF, i like plenty of music that stays completely within a given western major or minor scale.
but when you shed all that to do standard radio fare, im assuming you're gonna find a way to make that interesting too. but they don't, not to me anyway, or at least not nearly as interesting as their previous material. it's not the fact that they "sold out", i have no problem with pop music, I loved a lot of songs off bieber's album swag that just dropped. it's the fact that they went from what they were previously making to mostly standard stuff without bringing anything really all that new to that new conversation they entered, basically aside from aesthetically being queer david bowie updated to the 21st century, and for me aesthetics/the intentional juxtaposition of their avant-garde image with mostly standard rock isn't interesting to me. it's the same reason i don't care for a lot of rock out there to begin with: literally all style, no substance.
you find parts of it boring for how sample heavy it is, i find it boring for the reasons stated above. maybe learn how to handle someone else's opinion of something you like without having an angry reflexive reactionary tribalistic insult spasm. but even going off your vehement defense you basically also admit his music is more conventional than it's ever been, so i digress.
it's not that im trying to sound smart, it's that you can't fathom someone having different taste from you and talking about music in different ways from you. didn't take you for such a close minded weirdo but go off. if someone expressing their opinion really "hurts" you maybe you should consider idk going outside and touching grass maybe?
also you mfs keep saying "solid" see my post above for my thoughts on that but idc whether music is "solid" i care whether it's interesting or speaks to me or not
Tryhard take
His last two warp albums were great, safe in the hands of love is ofc on a diff level, but to diminish the artistic merit of his last two is insane to me lol, feels like its just trying too hard to be diff
again, calling someone "tryhard" for saying they don't like something is insane stan behavior. "trying too hard to be diff" more like you're too simple to understand there are people out there in this big ol world with completely different tastes from you
i guess i attacked your sacred cow or something
This nigga sherm just casually dropped that he went to 500 shows in 5 years. I love this maniac
