"Homophobia is apart of the Black church!" Is a wild statement to make especially since Gospel music was a big part of house music...which was created by the queer Black community, and also helped increase the sale of Gospel records
Imagine hating the group of people who helped keep your f***in genre and record companies afloat ungrateful ass niggas
It's disingenuous to act like everyone talking about this keeps track of hip hop music 24/7 and everyone just collectively agreed that this was somehow the worst thing ever said by anyone ever.
This got huge because of social media. Social media is among the most unpredictable forces in our current media climate. This could have gone away after four minutes or gotten way bigger than it is now.
The initial complaints just happened to hit at the right time and reach people with big audiences that then grew the story exponentially. The reason complaints keep piling on is because more and more people hear about it and they chime in. I promise you there are plenty of people online applying the same morals to the entire spectrum of hip hop, they just don't blow up. This one did, which clouds people's judgements, making them think this was everyone collectively thinking it crossed the line.
It's not like everyone online just collectively decided that Harvey Weinstein (No I'm not comparing him and Dababy morally) was the worst of the worst in Hollywood and had to go. Everyone piled on him because the story grew exponentially in a similar manner. People can only focus on so many things and eventually the collective locks onto something, usually by sheer happenstance.
People don't really care that much about this. Social media is convenient, so people passively posted some comments about it (not surprising - people aren't big on homophobia) and moved on with their day. The thing is that when this passive discouragement starts to group up to hundreds of thousands of comments it comes across like draconian outrage/witch hunt. Companies and celebrities see it the same way and act accordingly.
Trust me, the majority of people complaining aren't hip hop heads, just everyday people hearing the news that a very influential person in pop culture made blatant homophobic remarks.
A million variables have to line up for something like this to happen, this just happens to be the situation where it did. I notice that I repeated myself a lot so sorry for that. Also sorry for this being way too long.
I really don't understand that it took 17 pages for this to be stated..
A lot of people haven't either grasped on to the ability of expressing their thoughts well or misinterpreting and not comprehending each other's points.. a lot of cognitive dissonance. In other words.. mfs slow.
The overarching topic is transforming from one thing to the next w/no real focus in the flow dialogue. No one understanding each other.
“Another group” you do know homophobia effect BLACK gays as well? They get s*** on from different angles. 1 for being black and 2 for being gay. Why do y’all exclude black gays like the s*** ain’t harming them?
I understand that, but there have been same s***marriage laws passed and anti discriminatory LGBTQ laws, LGBTQ have white dollars behind them and organized power//
Meaning there have been systemic changes for the community// so yes I understand there are black gays but that’s still another group with different powers behind them that black people don’t have
There isn’t much left to do by way of real law changes for LGBTQ homophobic people will always exist you can’t change everyone’s mindset// meanwhile there are a ton of systemic changes that can be made for black people and we just never get them so that creates the resentment
The fact that the church is teaching homophobia is a problem off rip. Especially since it's gay people who are very devout. S*** it's gay people who follow the Bible and its laws better than a lot of straight Christians.
I don't know how you are trying to say homophobia is apart of Black culture as if homophobia is exclusive to us. Homophobia exists everywhere. Doesn't mean those cultures are defined by their homophobia. I don't know why any culture would want to be defined by their hate or be proud of it.
Sidebar, it's a lot of gay Black people within our culture. S***, it's gay Black people who were responsible for many of the positive aspects of Black culture via fashion, art, film, music, and even our language. To say homophobia is apart of Black culture is disrespectful af to the culture and shows that you have very little understanding of the culture and its history.
If you are a Bible following Christian, homosexuality is one of the things the Bible condemns. Ever heard the story of sodom and Gomorrah? Of course most pastors are going to be against it.
I didn’t say homophobia is exclusive to our culture, but it’s a part of it. It’s apart of a lot of cultures. A lot of people have traditional mindsets. I don’t think we should be proud it hate towards anybody.
Expecting a dude who made music with gay people to not be homophobic is asking too much?
Say less lol
Yea it’s 2 much nikka
Shut the f*** up. You don’t have a counterpoint.
I see they doin it to U too
It get to the point these lil niggas have no rebuttal so they begin ad hominem
U gotta jus power thru
These people still dont get that the core and heart of Hip Hop are lower middle class and impoverished black kids
They(listeners that dont get this) want all the hypermasculinity and violent street stories that come with it but not the s*** they label as politically incorrect
S*** dont add up
Yep
ppl still trying to compare rappers rapping about violence that they’ll tell you “I’m rapping about life experiences”
to this completely random and ignorant, literally unnecessary rant by this dude
how
Do you think that the environment with violent experiences that they grew up in was accepting of gay people?
Black man can rap about killing other black men & soon as he say something homophobic it’s a problem. As long as it’s destructive to African Americans society does not care.
Y'all keep posting this stupid s*** and think you making a point but you aren't.
Y'all keep posting this stupid s*** and think you making a point but you aren't.
the people posting that also listen to black men rap about killing each other too so i guess nobody really cares

...You're equating basic rights like being able to get married as if us as black folk aren't allowed to do that either.
Any lgbtq laws passed have all been for the sake of bringing the very basics of equality to a group of people so that they can do the simple s*** that everyone else can like get married, or donate blood, or serve in the military...
Niggas talking about resentment over people getting basic rights. Wtf is your problem?

Ok and they got those rights and they currently have the strongest movement in America, meanwhile black people have been waiting forever for america to correct the wrongs of the past so therefore I can’t blame any black person who prioritizes the black American plight over fighting homophobia//
What part of that don’t you understand? There is nothing else to be done for the LGBT community and if there is they have MORE than enough backing and power to get it done, meanwhile there are people using homophobia as a shield to tear down and speak down on black men

Nobody gives a damn what you prioritize, the problem is actively discriminating, insulting, threatening and saying slurs to a whole other group of people and now you're saying "Oh we're black we have a plight as well so we can be discriminatory to lgbtq+"
Whataboutism for absolutely no reason, just for the sake of being able to be homophobic and have nobody question or call you out on it.
Niggas talking about resentment over people getting basic rights. Wtf is your problem?
What part don’t you understand about every single other group in america get what they ask for yet black people cant get what was owed and promised to us? Our ancestors literally built this country from free labor, of course that will cause resentment
If a white gay person and a black gay person walk into the same bank to try and get a business loan who Tf do you think will have a harder time getting one? Do I need to explain the systems still in place to this day?

I never said it was ok to do any of that stuff please show me where I did? I’m just explaining why some black people won’t go to bat as hard for the LGBT community

Native Americans have gotten what they've asked for???

And nobody is asking you to do so? This whole thing started because DaBaby unprovoked was homophobic and this then lead to other black folk bringing up someone who hasn't even said anything on the subject and just minding their business saying "Oh he's allowed to be gay, why can't we be homophobic?"
The problem isn't you or anyone else going to bat, the problem is just minding your damn business or the matter of lgbtq+ if you don't want to go to bat and not using your own struggles as a black man as a shield for homophobia.

Can you at least fight against homophobia against black lgbtq+ then?
What about the discrimination that gay black man faces when walking home and being called a f**ot or sum???
Do I have to explain the social discrimination that still exists against lgbtq? (black and brown lgbtq are even more vulnerable to those issues btw)
you can be pro-black and anti homophobia/misogynie/transphobia - they aren't mutually exclusive.

Well I was discussing something else so hop out my convo and go fight the people who did what you are saying
