It's disingenuous to act like everyone talking about this keeps track of hip hop music 24/7 and everyone just collectively agreed that this was somehow the worst thing ever said by anyone ever.

This got huge because of social media. Social media is among the most unpredictable forces in our current media climate. This could have gone away after four minutes or gotten way bigger than it is now.

The initial complaints just happened to hit at the right time and reach people with big audiences that then grew the story exponentially. The reason complaints keep piling on is because more and more people hear about it and they chime in. I promise you there are plenty of people online applying the same morals to the entire spectrum of hip hop, they just don't blow up. This one did, which clouds people's judgements, making them think this was everyone collectively thinking it crossed the line.

It's not like everyone online just collectively decided that Harvey Weinstein (No I'm not comparing him and Dababy morally) was the worst of the worst in Hollywood and had to go. Everyone piled on him because the story grew exponentially in a similar manner. People can only focus on so many things and eventually the collective locks onto something, usually by sheer happenstance.

People don't really care that much about this. Social media is convenient, so people passively posted some comments about it (not surprising - people aren't big on homophobia) and moved on with their day. The thing is that when this passive discouragement starts to group up to hundreds of thousands of comments it comes across like draconian outrage/witch hunt. Companies and celebrities see it the same way and act accordingly.

Trust me, the majority of people complaining aren't hip hop heads, just everyday people hearing the news that a very influential person in pop culture made blatant homophobic remarks.

A million variables have to line up for something like this to happen, this just happens to be the situation where it did. I notice that I repeated myself a lot so sorry for that. Also sorry for this being way too long.

“Another group” you do know homophobia effect BLACK gays as well? They get s*** on from different angles. 1 for being black and 2 for being gay. Why do y’all exclude black gays like the s*** ain’t harming them?

The fact that the church is teaching homophobia is a problem off rip. Especially since it's gay people who are very devout. S*** it's gay people who follow the Bible and its laws better than a lot of straight Christians.

I don't know how you are trying to say homophobia is apart of Black culture as if homophobia is exclusive to us. Homophobia exists everywhere. Doesn't mean those cultures are defined by their homophobia. I don't know why any culture would want to be defined by their hate or be proud of it.

Sidebar, it's a lot of gay Black people within our culture. S***, it's gay Black people who were responsible for many of the positive aspects of Black culture via fashion, art, film, music, and even our language. To say homophobia is apart of Black culture is disrespectful af to the culture and shows that you have very little understanding of the culture and its history.

I understand that, but there have been same s***marriage laws passed and anti discriminatory LGBTQ laws, LGBTQ have white dollars behind them and organized power//

Meaning there have been systemic changes for the community// so yes I understand there are black gays but that’s still another group with different powers behind them that black people don’t have

There isn’t much left to do by way of real law changes for LGBTQ homophobic people will always exist you can’t change everyone’s mindset// meanwhile there are a ton of systemic changes that can be made for black people and we just never get them so that creates the resentment

...You're equating basic rights like being able to get married as if us as black folk aren't allowed to do that either.

Any lgbtq laws passed have all been for the sake of bringing the very basics of equality to a group of people so that they can do the simple s*** that everyone else can like get married, or donate blood, or serve in the military...

Ok and they got those rights and they currently have the strongest movement in America, meanwhile black people have been waiting forever for america to correct the wrongs of the past so therefore I can’t blame any black person who prioritizes the black American plight over fighting homophobia//

What part of that don’t you understand? There is nothing else to be done for the LGBT community and if there is they have MORE than enough backing and power to get it done, meanwhile there are people using homophobia as a shield to tear down and speak down on black men

Nobody gives a damn what you prioritize, the problem is actively discriminating, insulting, threatening and saying slurs to a whole other group of people and now you're saying "Oh we're black we have a plight as well so we can be discriminatory to lgbtq+"

This whole thing started because DaBaby unprovoked was homophobic and this then lead to other black folk bringing up someone who hasn't even said anything on the subject and just minding their business saying "Oh he's allowed to be gay, why can't we be homophobic?"

The problem isn't you or anyone else going to bat, the problem is just minding your damn business or the matter of lgbtq+ if you don't want to go to bat and not using your own struggles as a black man as a shield for homophobia.
