So why are they still calling vaccinated people getting covid a 'breakthrough' case when they have admitted with Omicron that basically two shots offers almost no defense and a booster is necessary.

I'm not anti-vax and have got my booster but we were supposed to get herd immunity too when 70%+ got vaccinated; that literally did not happen in every country.

It seems like a vaccine really doesn't do much against COVID at this point unless you are 90 years old or something.

Doesn’t do much? It’s keeping people from dying and going to the hospital

"unless you are 90 or something".

A 20 year old went from like a 99.90% to a 99.95% of not dying lol. It seems someone young and healthy who's vaccinated can still get COVID just as likely at this point as someone not vaccinated and most importantly can still spread it just as much though.

Te elderly population/pre-existing health conditions population are the ones who basically need to have that s*** be mandatory for and the rest it seems it almost makes no difference.

It also really seems like these countries should be donating the vaccine supply to the poorer countries and their old population as that would help more than trying to hog vaccines for their 15 year old citizens who are wasting it by not even rushing to get it and have basically gotten no real benefits from taking it.

Ahh a conveniently timed winter variant with symptoms identical to the common cold. Who could have seen this coming

I am getting fed up with everyone on my social media feed thinking that they are experts or that they know better than the experts.

Pandemic + isolation + more time on the internet and being exposed to the ingenious algorithms, filter bubbles and echo chambers to make you feel empowered and smart = perfect storm.

I think it’s because they are clearly lying about gain of function research that didn’t need to happen …

    edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/omicron-variant-coronavirus-news-12-21-21-intl/h_f5fb9d2da1f45bdc5940d574dcb8eacb
"Omicron coronavirus variant may be less likely to cause severe disease in the lungs and appears to be less sensitive to current vaccines compared with other variants – but a booster dose can help improve protection.

Researchers from the United Kingdom, Japan and South Africa a***yzed blood serum samples from vaccinated people and found that neutralization of Omicron was not detectable for most people who received two doses of either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines; but a third dose of vaccine – or booster shot – rescued neutralization in the short term.

To better understand how Omicron may infect our cells, Gupta and his colleagues also tested how pseudoviruses infected cells within a mini model of parts of the lungs. The researchers found that Omicron has lower infectivity of lung cells compared with the Delta variant.

"We speculate that the more efficient the virus is at infecting our cells, the more severe the disease might be. The fact that Omicron is not so good at entering lung cells and that it causes fewer fused cells with lower infection levels in the lab suggests this new variant may cause less severe lung-associated disease," Gupta said in the statement.

"While further work is needed to corroborate these findings, overall, it suggests that Omicron’s mutations present the virus with a double-edged sword: it’s got better at evading the immune system, but it might have lost some of its ability to cause severe disease," he added."

Everybody should get their vaccines & boosters for sure, but I wouldn't say that's the reason for why we haven't gotten rid of it yet. Bigger reason is not loosening ip restrictions on the vaccines to let countries produce their own vaccines. (An actual legit reason to hate Bill Gates not the weirdo conspiracy bullshit.)

Also omicron has stronger immunity against the virus and natural immunity after infection and also spreads several times faster than delta, which itself already spread faster than OG covid.

And honestly, we won't be in this pandemic forever, but covid (like the flu) is gonna be with us forever no matter what we unfortunately
