I still cant wrap my head around how good the tonal whiplash from the last page of 230 to first page of 231 was, and how much the whole ordeal with insect devils gaining immense strength was logical but still out of left field. I remember we were all confused about why hell was empty and that locust devil was that strong but in retrospect it made perfect sense and that itself made it so much cooler
I think there are levels to bad and this one is bad. There's series like you said where the meat of it is so good it doesn't really get harmed by how it ended.
Take Sopranos for instance, and I do love the ending of that show, I would call it maybe controversial more so than bad. Game of Thrones was falling apart the last few seasons and then had an awful ending to boot and will never wash that stench off. They're lucky the spins off been solid to repair the reputation.
Endings like Prison School or Promise neverland are never beating the trash ending allegations tho. I think how this will go down is Part 2 is weaker than Part 1, Part 1 looks like the messiah in comparison, and that will stay beloved.
I'm not saying every single ending will be received positively of course, mine was more of an observation on how shonen manga endings always get a overwhelmingly negative reaction on release and with the subsequent anime adaptation, the detractors start to have a more positive outlook on them, probably due to internet discourse on manga being too dumb for its own good, and because of this how csm's ending reactions arent really a metric of anything.
You gotta wait for the anime adaptation to really gauge public perception of a shonen manga ending nowadays (not that i think consensus is a sufficient metric for an ending's quality)

Animes typically will try to clear some stuff up though, so its separate in how endings are viewed I would say. AOT being an example somewhat recently
I dont think there is much to possibly change about the ending of this with the anime unless Fujimoto completely tells them to retcon s***.
Naruto still has a s*** ending, still a loved series. The typical shonen viewer is incredibly easy to please as opposed to people that read it. I think this applies to books that get movie or tv adaptations as well, readers get more detail typically and will be more cynical of the product that is delivered to them.

Yeah it's so funny and well executed

What most people hated about aot when It first released was what happened, not the execution. Eren didnt kill everyone, he got defeated, paradis was still at risk, the marvel alliance, things that the anime didnt change at all. And yet the anime watchers were more open to take the story for what it was instead of creating their own aot in their head that isayama somehow needed to match.
I keep repeating this but the last part is the reason manga discussion is so ass, that and agenda posting.
I also havent heard any actual criticism of this ending, if anything some of the criticism ive heard is misguided because It misses some details that the manga makes clear, like the reset not being a full reset and not a dream either, and how the full story did happen, because the story happening is how we get to this reality in the first place

You know it’s better to be reactionary and taunt the fanbase about a “ trash ending “

Um yall did the exact same thing for every other series. CSM fans have been the main ones talking s*** on other manga and being weird about it, that it’s hilarious when it happens back to them and they want to cry about it lmao all I’m seeing on Twitter is people quoting CSM fans and their hypocrisy. And plus the ending genuinely has a f*** ton of issues. It’s not good and it’s okay to admit that. I’ve been admitted JJK OG ending had problems.
Is he still obsessed with bewbs
He has one less testicle, the reset made it so he’s back to how he started.

There’s been threads upon threads about every problem imaginable. Some CSM fans are such big d***riders that they are saying the ending was suppose to be bad because that’s what Fuji intended or it’s typical Fuji

I think it's because most people saw the writing on the wall 2 weeks ago. Most of the criticism made when 231 dropped applies here because it was made predicting a reset that wouldn't solve everything wrong with part 2 and that did end up happening
No reason to keep saying the same stuff, most people said Fujimoto wouldn't stick the landing and he didn't

It's hilarious that they keep defending it with "That's just Fujimoto's way of writing, you just don't understand it" when no one ever said that with part 1 or Fire Punch. Suddenly all this guy does is write s***ty endings

SBR ending made sense because of the villains goals, powers, and the journey across the Dio and Joestar history. Pucci threw a hail Mary in accomplishing his goals. It's bittersweet because none of these characters are the same ones we knew before the reset.
Denji loses his bestie, but he literally gets everything else. Doesn't have to deal with the Makima we know. Is everything resolved with no serious consequence? This looks like it was a dream or a reset. Not an alternate universe like in SBR. Denji still wanted to have s\*\*\*with power... I thought he would learn a bit more after Nayuta. The tone shift is really bad in the last few chapters whether it was weekly or a binge read.

I think JoJo works because emporio still remembers everything so the events still happened in a way but in chainsaw man no one remembers anything so it makes it feel pointless also it's not even a happy ending because denji is a powerless one eye ball one testicle human fighting devils so he's probably gonna get killed within a few years

Denji loses both pochita, his best friend and only lasting, pure relationship in his life, one he repeatedly calls the thing he loves the most, and all the checklist of dreams he managed to realize while being chainsaw man. What he gains is another chance to live his life as a normal dude, still dreaming of doing normal things like having a dog or a girlfriend, but this time without powers. He may not even live long, and he's pretty crippled as it is, but at least he will be actively involved in his own life, without falling in the trap of a overwhelming power of pochita or the abuses he faced as csm, as the scene of him letting go of the chainsaw to save asa shows. He's powerless now, at best he could sign a contract like most devil hunters, so theres no need for a makima level threat to potentially kill him.
And he doesnt seem to wanna f*** power? He never did, either on part 1 or here. His desire for s***if anything seems to be quelled, as his hypersexuality was the product of abuse by all the women interested in chainsaw's power and the sudden fame he got at the end of part 1.
I just dont think we're seeing a reset or a dream here. Denji said it felt like a dream, not that it was. Eren says the same thing in chapter 1 of aot, and we know in that case it wasnt a dream either. Characters are different than their original introduction, and react to things they shouldnt if it was Indeed a reset. Why does meowy like nayuta? Why is nayuta here in the first place instead of makima? Why is nayuta not cold and reactionless like at the end of part 1? Why does power like denji and dogs?
Now let me be frank, im not sure either what reality that Is. We know that chainsaw man's power is to remove both name and concept of the devil he eats in the present and the past, so were to assume that eating a concept erases it from the past too, negating all the events that happened.
But pochita says he doesnt know what will happen if he eats himself, so there's probably more to it in that case. Still, a re-read and a***ysis of authorial intent could help with a more satisfying answer.
Maybe the ending is too bittersweet instead of negative or positive, or maybe people feel that denji's ending should've come by his own volition, but i find it fitting for him, and original. Denji was never gonna save himself, thats what the manga has been trying to say since the very beginning. Someone, a loved one, needed to see the situation for what it was and give him a saving grace by making a very tough choice.
Pochita tried living with denji, he still fueled his desire to achieve more and more despite denji's growing desperation, he fought to keep denji alive by even eating the death devil, but they reached the finish line, and there was nothing they could do to keep going.

How??? The dude is double f***ed by the contract with Power and Nayuta, he's in a worse position than the one he was in early part 2, where he tries to do his own thing and without being manipulated by other people. This ending basically punishes him for even trying to fix his life out of a problem forced onto him.
I don't oppose a powerless Denji after a reset but the notion that he wouldn't have been able to make the choice himself is very incorrect when remembering his character in early part 2.

For the dream s\*\*\*. Did you think he recognized anybody? It looked like he didn't recognize anyone. It's a saved game reset at level 1\. He didn't grow during or after the reset. He's back at part 1 of development. Everything between chapter 1 and 231 doesn't matter 😭😭😭
