To actually develop as a character without a damn reset button. Are you a manga reader? I can’t tell from your comments
I know some of the manga plot . Denji was never that deep of a character to me to think he would entirely change by end . That’s just me though

You think him being perpetually h**** to the point he objectifies himself and puts s***over everything is good writing? Lol

No lol that’s why I never acted like every part of it was genius or deep it’s entertainment
It’s a dark comedy
CSM is not a dark comedy lol dark yes, but the these were continuing themes that just were explored horribly in part 2
It’s a dark comedy
I binge read all of part 2 over the last few days and I think people are way understating how much of it IS a dark comedy, like objectively some of the tragic s*** happening to these characters plays out in deeply funny ways, which I thought was actually accentuated by the art quality diminishing more and more as it went on. It's like the manga equivalent of slowly developing heatstroke, and I thought it was really enjoyable reading it all in one go.

That’s always how I took it so how it all wrapped up was never my concern so much as enjoying the ride
Devilman, slam dunk, AnJ, dragon ball endings would've got slaughtered today man

What? No they all stand the test of time and had actual great endings. Just saw a thread on dragon ball’s ending and people were calling it classic. It ended perfectly (not including super or GT).
Devil man (the anime) ending isn’t decades old and people loved it too.
Slam dunks ending was good too.

Dragon ball's endings was originally HATED by the majority of fans, opinion naturally changed as time went on, something that seems to be always happening with every single shonen manga ending, yet fans fail to see this. The widely acclaimed JoJo part 6 endings was also hated and considered the lowest point of the series when it first released.
I was talking about the Devilman manga, not the anime. The anime does some things differently, the actual iconic and influential work was the original manga.
The others ive posted are only seen as good now because people werent following these series weekly, they had the entire work to read through so they didnt make up theories and headcanons that clouded their judgement.
Slam dunk ends with shohoku being anticlimatically eliminated from the tournament without even being shown this, just a panel and a cut. There were characters like miyagi, coach anzai and the two main girls that didnt get a backstory or anything despite being very involvend secondary characters, and you had characters like that manga's equivalent of Shaquille o Neal that were introduced as a future threat but never actually shown playing or facing the protagonists. And we don't get to see the future of any of the main characters.
This is some textbook ending that would get overwhelming hate today because it focused on "themes and such" and not on "closing plot points" and there were characters being left behind.
Yet that ending stands tall as one of the most powerful of the medium, id argue because of those conscious decisions by the author.
And this is one example, i could go in depth with all the others, like devilman going against every single shonen fans' expectations of good writing yet influencing most other mangaka including y'all favs for 50 years and counting

Eeeeh part 2 pushed hard into the "jokes" and "humor" of despair and misery with the world almost ending. Especially with Denji's reactions and interactions with the war devil.

these people would think berserk is trash if it came out now lmao, especially post golden age arc
hell i still see people misinterpret plenty of s*** about it now on tiktok
Berserk is the best manga of all time to me. I just want it to conclude correctly since the goat died.

I mean sure they could’ve probably been hated but they actually didn’t have bad endings.
There was nothing else db needed to do, people just wanted more.
I only know of devilman anime ending so fair, I’ll have to check out the manga’s ending. Anime is spectacular though.
And Slam Dunk, I’ll give you that but again it wasn’t a bad ending.
I just feel the reaction for CSM is because it’s abrupt (like the original JJK ending admittedly) but also so many plot lines were trashed, the whole reset a time line because pochita eats himself, and the drag to get there doesn’t even make it satisfying. Plus it was some fan service stuff just thrown in. I don’t think Fuji seemed to care much by this point.

It seemed to not always take itself serious but I just took it as Fuji leaning too much in being overly eccentric (dumbass faces being drawn), which annoyed the s*** outta me with how much he overdid it. The humorous parts stopped landing when the execution on the story became worse.
I don’t want to label it a comedy because it just becomes a cop out for some of the plot points. I just think he used comedy similar to how db has its quirks too.

Thats my whole point, just because this ending is getting hated on don't make it trash lol give it time. All of the series finale i mentioned were hated on release and now are all looked at more fondly, people just too clouded by emotions and clout to be honest with themselves
Once re-read Is done i'll have things to share about asa too, something's brewing. Despite the iffy execution there's some gold in her character towards the end of the series as well

I think there are levels to bad and this one is bad. There's series like you said where the meat of it is so good it doesn't really get harmed by how it ended.
Take Sopranos for instance, and I do love the ending of that show, I would call it maybe controversial more so than bad. Game of Thrones was falling apart the last few seasons and then had an awful ending to boot and will never wash that stench off. They're lucky the spins off been solid to repair the reputation.
Endings like Prison School or Promise neverland are never beating the trash ending allegations tho. I think how this will go down is Part 2 is weaker than Part 1, Part 1 looks like the messiah in comparison, and that will stay beloved.
