just be glad im not this dumbfuck i read on RYM who said this "It's a solid cover but lacks that sense of urgency that makes the Leaves/Byrds/Love versions far superior. It sounds too laid back for a song about a guy who's on the run from shooting his wife and her lover."

every other version of the song straight up sucks ass and Jimi is the only one who could make it great

i dont dislike it at all, just a 9/10 where he has so many 10/10s

but its the song itself that mainly just isnt that interesting to me. and jimi's vocals are never a favorite part of his music to me. and its got a less adventurous solo. kinda just never saw what some people see as god tier in it

im only throwing it on when im listening to the full catalog

oh ok gotcha. the solo itself isn't mindblowing but I feel like the lead up and just the "release" of the solo is a pretty cathartic moment if that makes sense.
Kinda feel same way with Wind Cries Mary but that actually has one my favorite guitar favorite solos ever just because it's the perfect compliment to the song itself and elevates it's beauty to insane heights Jimi at his most tender and tasteful

It's not just about his voice but the whole band and the way they move as a unit to propel him into the stratosphere is f***in incredible. Steve Cropper one of the MVPs of these years because he was co-writing/composing all these songs with Otis and Wilson Pickett and playing some of the most stunning lead guitar

The slow buildup over the song to the solo too such an amazing release

But yeah that production is amazing I just realized coincidentally it might have been produced by Chaz Chandler of the Animals Chaz knew

It is my favorite Hendrix song possibly because of the harpsichord

yea i remember mentioned it to me the Ladyland version is much better imo. production on that album is insane, glad he tucked that tune away for the right vibe. man was so in control of his vision

i guess this shows some of the difference in our valuing of ""wankery"" cuz i could never imagine placing a hendrix song as my favorite for any reason other than guitar goatness

I'm just joking but yeah Hendrix's genius wasn't just guitar for me. Burning is possibly the zenith of psychedelia on all levels.
