why though when i could just listen to R&B non-christmas music
Remember when I said House of the Rising Sun was the most timeless rock and roll song of that year and almost could have come out several years later or anytime and you heavily disagreed
This too
the jordanairres killed it
im gonna listen to Having Fun With Elvis on Stage before i listen to his christmas album

It's just that one song I really love. Untouchable charisma.

yup. i mean it could have came out in 66 or something when british r&b movement was still at the end of its peak but i wouldnt say beyond that
ill give you that it sounds more like 65 than 64 because thats when i thought it came out when i just googled it rn ngl

You're not going to like my choice for that equivalent for this year
take a guess which song I think is the most timeless

need to define timeless first i guess
and its hard to pick anyway because if it were up to me the word "timeless" wouldnt ever even exist in music discussions

Like there's isnt necessarily anything about it that dates it to 1966 and certain elements make it sound like it could have come out later if anything

i mean it cant be the worst choice since its hendrix. and hendrix sounds a hell of a lot like the years of the future compared to the Animals, no matter which song it is. you can still hear Hendrix (and yeah Hey Joe i guess) in the 80s but no one was sounding as directly like the Animals anymore within a few years of them. and no im not crediting that animals song for all brooding masterpieces to come like you
rather choose its b side though since it shows off his guitar goatness much more

Idk I'd say as soon as he dove into psychedelia that stuff is pretty firmly rooted in the late sixties but this has more of a soul tinge with the backup singers and hendrix's vocal. Magnificent, expressionistic performance from Mitch Mitchell as well.

would like to hear why RVI dislikes his version, always thought it fantastic. jimi's effortlessly cool vocals and mitch pushing the song to the edge

i mean it can be partially rooted in the late 60s but at the same time be heard throughout the entire genre's history via the most key contributor to one of the genre's main elements of the guitar solo
and ofc it even goes beyond just plain rawk to to a lot of metal. you can hear Hendrix when youre listening to Metallica

i dont dislike it at all, just a 9/10 where he has so many 10/10s
but its the song itself that mainly just isnt that interesting to me. and jimi's vocals are never a favorite part of his music to me. and its got a less adventurous solo. kinda just never saw what some people see as god tier in it
im only throwing it on when im listening to the full catalog

The slow buildup over the song to the solo too
such an amazing release
But yeah that production is amazing I just realized coincidentally it might have been produced by Chaz Chandler of the Animals
Chaz knew

I feel like his vocals a little bit inspired by Otis in his ad-libbing

Stop comparing it to the rest of his stuff and start comparing it to everything else that came out in 1966
