Yes, I remember reading that he said it was either a total mess or his best song after recording it.

It's also the song that instantly sold me on Dylan. While I already knew his giant classics before (Blowing In the Wind, Mr. Tambourine Man, Rolling Stone, Johanna, Knockin On Heaven's Door, Lay Lady Lay etc.) it was this song that finally made me explore his catalogue and it's still my favorite. That heartfelt harmonica solo att the end gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. I guess it can feel a little dry when I'm not in the mood for the song but when it hits it's one of the best things ever.

I guess it's a Peter Paul and Mary cover and was probably a traditional folk thing anyway but lennon definitely bit that melody and made some cheddar off of it probably

Lmao bro it is amongst the most overplayed Christmas songs there is. I don't know about now but back in the day TV commercials used to play it over super depressing guilt trip charity ads all Christmas. I will be shocked if you've never heard this;
