they rolled out civil rights like god damn expansion packs and we still aren’t where we should be because of compromising for people we shouldn’t have been. politicians p**** footed the issue for countless decades specifically to cater to their base and not jeopardize their political careers.

people who should’ve been leading the charge (and were to the best of their abilities) were constantly demonized by both the public and government institutions and the general sentiment of both political parties were they couldn’t give 2 f***s about civil rights. it would’ve been conveniently continued to be ignored by politics if it didn’t reach such a boiling point - all because we didn’t want to do what was “right”when we should have and instead to compromise and drag feet, to which we are still feeling the repercussions
