Idk the thing about SS, even though jay and the label made him chase hits, it was still probably good for him overall. He said the same on his podcast it helped him learn how to make songs besides just rapping which lead to FHD.

But I think they should of left it at the main singles (workout, can't get enough, nobody perfect) and not overdo it with some of the other songs on there

I can see this, especially with Jay. The Sean hate from Ye was surprising to me

I remember Cruel Summer era Kanye was bigging up Sean so much it hurt to hear that but kanye was in his feelings so much during that donda era

nigga Cole has given all his Dreamville artists multiple placements

he had THREE label compilation albums, one of which had industry niggas mad they didnt get invited to the sessions lol

created a festival where every artist on the label had an automatic set

this a lazy ass take, Cole has put in way more effort than Hov has as a boss

Great so he has firsthand experience now knowing that all he did still wasn't enough because nobody cares about any of those artists, so I'm asking again what was Jay supposed to do for him?
I wish niggas would stop thinking that there's some type of special button you push to make someone hot and face reality instead, at the end of the day it's up to every artist individually to achieve what they're trying to achieve

  • Gosh

Compton was basically a Kendrick and Dre collab album

One verse on one of the Jays most forgetful albums means nothing

Hov even forced Cole to make Mr Nice Watch and waste a Hov feature on it when Cole wanted him on a better song like Sideline stories, damn shame

damn this is f***ed up lowkey

    I don’t disagree with that

But making an artist like Cole chase hits was so redundant imo

And forcing himself on a song like Mr nice watch was so nasty

I think it's easy to say that in hindsight, but the hits he got was a big reason why he was able to build his fanbase to the point where he could make the songs he truly wanted to make, while still having a big impact.

We were just in that Tyler thread talking about him being lit outside and in the clubs early and SS was a huge reason why. We've seen artists with a lot of heart like Cole whose careers didn't pan out like we thought they would cause they couldn't cross over at the time (Big Krit)

Deep down inside they both wish they signed Drake and resent the artists they actually signed. There’s no other reason for Kanye to hate Sean and for Jay to hate Cole as much as they clearly do

Ye gave Sean looks he had no business being anywhere near enough with the pity for this guy

Even for me being “in the club” wasn’t what made Cole lit

It’s him being the soundtrack for athletes an college students, and giving people something different than what all the hit chasers were giving

Even with the “hits” Cole had, he was still only projected to hit 90k

He hit 200k because of the fans, not because of workout, and he has sustained his fan base because of the fans and their respect for the craft

  • Smacked Voodoo

Lightskin biracial niggas with white moms always demanding people drop everything and cater to them and give em help

he wasnt demanding, just asking for a look lol close mouths dont get fed, that was the least he could do

I'm speaking more from a perspective of his whole career. He had strong fan support but he gained a ton of casual fans and women after SS and that's what led to FHD having the ears and appeal of everybody

If we’re being real the only people on GOOD music who probably made money for the label are Sean and John Legend

I think the label also realized we were at a time where building a fanbase was more important than getting a number 1 on billboard and actually let him breathe

But I do believe if they trusted Cole from the jump we get a better debut and it still does 100k+

Dre did a lot of work on GKMC and a lot of it was changed through his influence. He also mixed/mastered a lot of it

the entire album was changed when Dre pulled up

not everyone gon pop off, the point is that he made the effort so comparing him to Hov is a piss poor take

nothing Hov did was gonna be a guarantee but this nigga didnt even try

we watched Wayne actively try to give his artists looks, no matter how bad they were, and he was at the peak of his career so that whole ‘artist mentality’ excuse for Hov is bullshit.

nigga gave RIHANNA HOW MANY LOOKS when she was breaking into superstar territory. he couldnt do that for Cole not once? even after he proved himself? like yeah man im not hearin none of that

bro Sean was on songs with legends within a 1-2 albums, he had a placement on MBDTF they turned into a bonus, ye never shorted that guy as a label boss as opposed to basically everyone else he signed

I don’t think so either? (Besides the money dispute. But that’s my business and I don’t know anything about it)

At least to my eyes, Ye and Sean sold a lot of records, made a lot of money, and made a bunch of good songs together

So to this day I’m not sure why Ye went on drink champs, dissed Sean, held up the tombstone and made up a story about Sean working for the democrats
