Explain the appeal of this manga please.

It's a well written sports drama that deals with topics such as the bitterness of having your dreams crushed, dealing with the fact that winning against the fan favourite will make people hate you, and realizing that no matter how hard you work sometimes things don't work out due to injuries or you just straight up not being good enough. All the race results are based on what happened in real life so there's no convenient writing to give everyone a moment of triumph, it's probably the most realistic sports drama when it comes to the ups and down of a competitive career and those resulting emotions. Personally, I have it tied with Ping Pong the Animation as best sports anime of all time.

The only reason why nobody in the West will take it seriously or think it has any possibility of being good is because the characters are anthropomorphized horse girls. If the characters were teenage boys than the show would have been a lot more popular in the West. The West in general just straight up doesn't take shows with a female cast seriously for some reason.

I wished you were a manga reader, shonan junai gumi (young gto) anime adaptation is some hot garbage

@redtruth @DMWR if you're gonna watch Uma Musume but are feeling iffy about it in the first place, I would recommend starting with season 2. That's the season that made everyone start to take the series more seriously as a legitimate sports anime, because honestly, the different in quality between the two seasons is not even close. The seasons follow different main characters so you won't really miss anything except for some irrelevant world building.

I can see it, it also reminds me of a thriller version of shonan junai gumi, and it has a refreshing take on the time travel mechanic. Getting really invested in it, cant wait for next episode

It def gets better but if it's already not living up to the hype I don't think it will get to that point for you.

Yeah, have so many shows im watching i had to leave out 86 and vivy which judging from reactions seem to be quite good

i felt the same way. its a great show though nonetheless.
