i specialize in calling the modern anime watcher a bum.
Tbh Thorfinn in S1 was actually my least favorite part of the show, bc he felt one-dimensional.
That’s kind of the genius of it - the author set the story in the Viking era because Thorfinn’s eventual ideals would clash so hard with the warlike culture of the time. That contrast makes the message land so much stronger imo.
Post S1 Thorfinn is a completely different kind of interesting. He’s not perfect - still naive, and constantly having his beliefs tested - but he refuses to go back to the cycle of violence. That's what makes his growth so compelling.
Honestly, if you give S2 an honest chance, it’s hard not to be impressed by how Thorfinn slowly changes the people around him.
"I want to be like you - strong, and kind. A real man."
The way is see it is that Thorfinn has always been black/white with no nuance or in between. Season 1 was on one end of the spectrum, season 2 he’s on the other. He’s always in too deep.
I just think it’s more interesting having someone like Canute who does not necessarily enjoy violence and horror of war but understands that given the state of the world he must use whatever means necessary to rid the world of both and challenge God
To be honest I watched both seasons because folks were debating shows where the MC is the clear best character and Vinland got brought up a lot because of Thorfinn. But after watching the show up to now I feel like he got overshadowed in season 1 askeladd and Canute and again got overshadowed in season 2 by Canute and Einar.

I feel like Chainsaw Man should've ended with Part 1. Nothing in Part 2 has really grabbed me, like it's just been meandering for a 100 odd chapters

Make sure to tell no one I agree with this

part 2 started off really strong imo but yeah it's not been great for a while now
Finished: the wandering witch
Starting: Ascendance of a Bookworm
Bookworm a really underrated isekai
