this is one of my favorite first listens in recent memory. the project flows incredibly well. each song is so layered and elicits such a unique vibe. itās really hard to pick a favorite, but Delusional is a standout. thank you so much for recommending this
One of my favorite albums ever fr
I really enjoyed this album, i went in blind so it took me by surprise what i heard. i was not expecting to hear such meditative record which i found it incredibly immersive with lots of its production aging ridiculous well. i loved how organic it sounded despite having lots of electronic production on it which was his aim reading up on what his vision was for this album.
the ambient sections on the album feel have this super warmth feeling to it. there is a spiritual feeling running through the whole thing without it becoming cheesy or too on the nose. the way album was composed especially it heavy use of synths made the album sound extremely modern in my opinion.
i especially loved the song power flower a lot with its chord progression and its jazzy production to create this super lush and alive sounding track. stevieās vocals are also top notch as usual.
i also really enjoyed the song race babbling probably my favourite off the album, i always like hearing weird odd ball disco tracks so this one was right up my alley.
i was surprised to read that this album is considered misstep in his career, i know he was coming off ridiculous streak of albums but it takes true artist to make something like this which is truely commendable
overall i enjoyed listening to this will revisit this album in near future
i actually have heard this one, love live miles especially this 1 and dark magus
i shall throw in Atmospheric Healing by Dream Dolphin.
likewise if you heard it before, another one your way
There's something nostalgic about it's extremely lush, naturistic and serene vibes. The first tracks mood taking an ever-so-slight turn from dream to nightmare towards the end was a nice and extremely subtle touch, even if just for its subtlety, and I think gave an early impression that this isn't going to play out like some average ambient spa-core s***.
These ghostly Japanese chatter is certainly adding character. Second track in, it's giving me early '00s skeuomorphism. Third track just following on with this feeling, even more 00's with this tribal vocal. Whole album so far feeling like that movie The Beach with DiCaprio lol.
Track 4 'Atmospheric Healing' treading the lines of devotional music with this euphoric mantra style. Track 5 'Ballad' is no slouch either, this acidic refrain was very nice, I felt like it could've developed more on that rather than switching between this whistle effect.
I thought Track 6 would grow into something radio-centric because of how it started but not quite, I'm not thrilled with this one.
Track 7 sounding Y.M.O. inspired... Oh my god this keyboard effect, towards the end, they had that s*** throughout the film Gang Related score, with Belushi and Tupac, so 90s.
'Spiritual Medicine' is an out-and-out silly bop, that horn near the beginning was so good.. I'm getting this from a few elements.. that I wish they were focused on and developed around more rather than how they are which seems like one element in a mess of elements. Track 9 is my least favourite.
'Island Humming' is another one that's hacking into the mainframe of mother nature's computer, running windows 98, trying to infect the system with massage oil and eucalyptus.. and that's pretty much what encapsulates the album for me.
Thank you for the recommendation

(Ceres & Calypso in the Deep of Time is an 2013 album by Candy Claws whose musical genre I genuinely don't know what to categorize)

Really enjoyed this album, especially going into it blind. The way I was gagged when the intro got louder and louder lol
Such a cool contrast of pleasant tropical or smooth melodies and vocal whispers against loud indie/psych rock guitars, I can honestly say I have never really heard anything like this and I kinda love it??? Like usually this type of production is like supposed to conjure up a relaxing, calm environment but played at this volume and intensity, it adds a level of ominousness or grandiosity for me to those visuals that I think is just fascinating
Respect the usage of vocals more for texture and not to exist as a dominant part of the song too, reminds me of a lot of the way the features are mixed/included off IGOR, hell even GONE, GONE kinda sounds a bit like Birth of the Flower (Seagreen)
As far critiques go, I'm not big on the last couple tracks like Illusion (Fern Lake) or Night Ela (Mystic thing) because imo they start to mess with that balance of abrasiveness and pleasant-sounding production that I love in all the other tracks and end up losing that unique/distinct musical identity that the rest of the album has in the process
Overall though yeah I kinda loved this album lol, I will def run it back in the near future and keep some tracks in the rotation, honestly curious how this will sound blasted in my car on the freeway (stay tuned)
Fave tracks: White Seal (Shell & Spine), Transitional Bird (Clever Girl)
Least fave tracks: Night Ela (Mystic Thing), Illusion (Fern Lake)

So unlike my handsome partner @yungpapi i listened to his recommendation with my ears open
so here my thoughts
First and foremost, i liked the album
I thought it was gonna be some different vibes at first, but its actually this cool, reminiscent, slumber vibe. Very lowkey but at the same time with very catchy melodies and a good work behind the production.
The vocals were pretty good, i didnt know before listening it was The Marias lead singer so yeah the quality was secured in that department. Her vocals work flawlesly for what she was going for, she has a very calm soothing voice.
I feel like its an album that works the best listening from start to finish in one sitting but at the same time i felt it had some good highlights to listen at any time. My favorite song was Swan and other notable songs got me were Back to You, Puddles and Not the only One.
My main criticism with the album are the lyrical content. At some points it felt like she was repeating the phrases for like 2 minutes straight. Or maybe its because she was singing with the same "tone" and felt similiar idk
Anyways, if i have to give a rating it would be like 7.5/10. I liked it and saved the whole album for future listenings. So yeah thank u for the dope music Purppiana

The music all getting kinda samey or repetitive is the exact same issue I have with The Mariaās in general
Relistened to this this week while I waited 3 days for your review (
) mostly agree with your highlighted songs and rating
@PADYBU i'm not gonna lie i didn't really find this album all that good. maybe i wasn't in the right mood for it, but it just completely flew past my head. it's pretty ballad heavy, which as a whole album for me just doesn't really work.
i did find myself enjoying some of the more "involved" songs with more sophisti-pop sounds like the first and third songs. definitely feel like these types of songs fit her the best. the vocals and instrumentation is like bread and butter.
i absolutely need to give it a few more listens to let the songs that left me unenthusiastic to really sit with me because i can definitely see this being a album to just let it play out and chill. not a bad album but something i need to be in the right vibe for.

makes total sense, these sort of ballads you really have to be in the mood for. One of them never fails to get on my nerves though, that duet with that dude lol
This the main one I come back to off your album

Ichiko aoba - Windswept Adan
"Iāve actually heard the sound of whales singing when I was inside the ocean. I was so far from shore that I couldnāt see the ocean floor anymore, and while I couldnāt physically see the whales, the vibrations of sound were carried much more quickly and clearly. So even though these whales were so far away, it felt as if they were right next to me, or even within me. Maybe this is because the water around me and the water inside of me were mixing in some way. That made me understand that music is not something that needs to be in a specific location. It is not something that needs to be picked up and listened to; it can be something that permeates the air. "
It took me quite a while to figure out how to review this album.
Itās not usually a genre I listen to. I guess itās going for atmospheric ambient, and based on the cover, weāre supposed to be on a desolate island.
I feel like if it was on in the background while I was mediating (I donāt) or getting a massage at a spa, it would be really enjoyable. But I listened to it in my car. I donāt think I was able to find the right headspace necessary for it all week.
It sounds beautiful though. Her voice is obviously gorgeous and the sounds that are used are soothing but idk if I would ever listen to this outside of the environments mentioned above. Itās almost like one of those sleep sound generators in album form.
Iām not going to give it a score because I donāt think I can do justice with a number to this genre. I may try at a later date to listen to it when Iām relaxed.

well I might as well give my review now since I have time and I'll be busy later
@Tuneout (album was Talk Talk - Laughing Stock)
I've def heard this album before but honestly this might as well be a fresh listen because I don't really remember much from it. My go-to Talk Talk project is Spirit of Eden (Wealth is one of my favorite songs ever lol).
It's insane to me how ahead of its time this and Spirit of Eden sound. Even though I wouldn't classify this as jazz, I love the incorporation of little ideas from the genre (and I love jazz too so all the better). I think they are one of those bands that sound like nothing else, they really pioneered and perfected a sound. "Ascension Day" is for sure the highlight for me it has kind of a noise rock thing going on during the louder parts with its guitar tone but also they combine it with their jazzy influences. I also love how they use the Hammond organ it's one of my favorite instruments ever lol gets me hooked instantly
"After the Flood" was another peak for me and once again it was the use of noisy textures that elevates it, at 4:01 apparently it's a variophon? never heard of that instrument but it adds a lot of character. All in all I love just how atmospheric, slow and subtly chaotic this project is
Incredible album RIP Mark Hollis
Really great album!
reminded me a lot of music I listened to growing up like arctic monkeys, strokes etc kinda vibe
so it was nostalgic even though it was my first time hearing it.
