Why not?
Pretty interesting that OP failed to give a legitimate reason as to why these Black bands who make rock music wouldn't fly in this discussion.
you are so on right on the money about white light/white heat. heard her call my name and sister ray made a huge impression on me as a kid…same with joey santiago of the pixies. being able to implement atonal sounds like that in a conventional song really blew my mind lmao
I've always liked when people did weird s*** with guitars lol Graham Coxon's scuzzy Blur guitar solos, Neil Young just making as much noise as possible, Kevin Shields turning his guitar into a vacuum cleaner and re-writing the book on what the instrument could do; I find that kind of thing really inspiring.
I obviously love Hendrix, Steve Howe, John McLaughlin, Larry Carlton, Nels Cline, etc but I'm not trying to be those guys at this point.
Ok but he made Sheik Yerbouti tho
zappa is a diva and he fumbled so many times in his career when i think about it. not even 'graduated' people same way someone like miles davis did. fumbling alice cooper is f***ing crazy but fumbling adrian belew is some you deserve it s*** lol
I’m inclined to agree but I want to give a shoutout to my favorite band lately No Doubt. A band that came out of a pretty niche scene (ska punk) and found success being led by the queen of punk Gwen Stefani.
I always preferred UK rock tbh
The Cure is the greatest rock band of all time.

I don't really have a strong opinion on this tbh just cause there's so many subgenres. It's like comparing Future and Nas. Both great for different reasons. My personal favorite band Enter Shikari but they pretty obscure in America

Okay I'm not saying we could do better than Enter Shikari, but given the chance we'd try. Anyway tap in bro

because im pretty sure i know the answer if i ask someone 'nirvana or the isley brothers rock era'. it has to do with perception of different genres. the revolution are in the convo though

yep bro i completely feel you. it’s like rap in a way: you can be technically proficient, but if you don’t have soul then it negates everything. that’s why hendrix is the GOAT he was able to straddle both…i’ll never understand people who call him overrated smh

Ignorance of the music a band creates is no excuse.
Even moreso when the time they were creating rock music that s*** was being falsely labeled as soul simply because they're Black and cacs couldn't stand it was niggas from Cincinnati jamming and making their white rockstars look like chumps.

Yeah Hendrix was a true artist whose music matched his own soul and beliefs. He really lived that s***. It's why he was such a great producer; his albums sounded like his own internal life. And that's not even getting into the guitar work...nobody ever made it sound easier. He was like a top tier athlete making superhuman s*** seem like breathing.
