this only kinda applies to TPAB, Kanye’s music doesn’t have that effect where it feels like something in a creative vaccum his music for most of his career has brought the best out of many artists & has always been openly super collaborative
Flower Boy dropped in 2017
Not an album I particularly like tbh but definitely unique and a creative vision executed well
Tyler is one of the only exceptions
You really think this is some sort of revelation obviously I am aware of this
I only mentioned those genres because they became dominant to the point that it seems like that's 90% of what gets dropped now I never said those genres were literally born after 2015 wtf lmao why would you even think that
Yeah I read in a rush but I also disagree.
DS2, Barter 6, Tha Tour Pt. 1, Pluto, Finally Rich, Run The Jewels, At Long Last A$AP, all pushed the respective boundaries of the genre and are 'creative' in their own right
There's still projects as creative as, if not more creative than the ones you specified

tpab was massively influenced by mbdtf
Are we excluding post-2015 Kendrick from this convo? He released multiple classics after TPAB too. It seems like everyone agrees that DAMN, Mr Morale, and GNX are classics

Damn is his worst album

kendrick released zero classic albums post tpab
Drake said the album was supposed to represent the changing of seasons. From winter to summer back to winter or some bullshit
like 6 bad alien posts in here
He must've posted only 6 times
If anything, rappers like Ye and Kendrick created the template of what a good rap album is suppose to sound like, and that's not a good thing. It's changed now, but every critic at one point reviewed albums based off certain producers, feats and criteria to what they thought a good rap album is. And it was all based off of the standard set by MBDTF and GKMC.
I was just thinking that the golden age of hip hop was basically the 11 year window between 87 and 97 from paid in full to life after death... every era that came after was increasingly shaped by fewer unique mcs and actual trendsetters
Kanye west gassing away his brain has had more impact on hip hop’s recent trajectory than anything else & it pains me
