XO is one of my fave tracks funny enough, I usually like the pop like hooks he has
I remember it growing on me but I aint spun that album in years
this is such a incoherent perception of music
Then s*** like MBDTF, GKMC, Yeezus, and TPAB dropped and mfs just collectively went "we can't top this s***, lets just make trap, pop rap, and dusty coke rap"
yea man, the world revolves around those 4 albums. Future only made DS2 because he listened to TPAB and knew he "couldn't compete". feels like you're dismissing hip hop as a genre unless its as "creative and genre blending" as those 4 albums, which is what racist cacs do, no?
One of the worst threads on here
Lot of ppl need their hip hop card revoked
Just bad take after bad take in here lol
How many variations of this same thread do you guys want to keep on having ? Its been accepted that mainstream hip hop and most genres have declined since the 2010s. There's a lot of reasons for it (streaming, labels, internet)
But one of them is that the fans just became lazy listeners, look at this site. Some of ya will only check out a new artist if they're fed to you by the machine. But how else you expect these great new and creative artist to enter the mainstream if you and others aren't supporting from the bottom
There's was one week where there was a lot of albums pinned at the top, and some users were complaining that it was taking up too much space
but it's literally a music forum tho

Drill era happened because them Chicago niggas knew they couldn’t make mbdtf
Kendrick at no point has been anywhere close to Kanye in his prime, popularity wise. Plus his hit records are nowhere close to Kanye's hit records. But thats not a bad thing--Kanye's hits are in the top top tier. Only Pac, Dre and BIG can f*** with him in that category
I’ll take the classic albums and impeccable discography if it means Kendrick stays sane for longer
You seem confused. What you’re describing is an upward trajectory, not a “peak”
Hip hop obviously got better for a while after 2011.
imma be so real bro please stop talking to me because if i find out what u look like and see u irl im smacking the s*** outta ur midget ass
Huge timeless hits, huge popularity, huge influence, iconic rollouts. There is a reason he was seen as second to drake for a long time post Ye prime. He didn't have the hits/popularity to compete in that lane. Plus the sales were never massive until DAMN.
Anyone that actually listened to Kendrick’s and Drake’s albums never thought Drake was a better pure rapper than Kendrick lol
Y’all need to stop conflating popularity with quality on here

i did and still do but i value different things from rappers
idk why yall cant accept that some people like different things
its not objective, only thing that is objective is NUMBERS
Random thought but when i heard that gospel intro on coloring book i just knew it was over for chance after that
Wayne
Convinced dude is trolling because prime Wayne is better than most of that list
after thinking about it op is halfway right
but i think this is something that happens genertionally, it usually takes about 20 years to reinvent the wheel
1994 - Illmatic
2004 - College drop out
2014 - The tour
college drop out was a evolution, but the tour was a completely new invention. its gonna take us to get to like 2030 for all of ths s*** to feel fresh again
them trap niggas heard MBDTF and thought
what happened to Put On Kanye???
“this new s*** too polished and rich Kanye. it’s…luxury trap!”

Maybe an economic collapse will forge a new nigga to come up with some new s***.
Artist aint struggling anymore therefore not creating from depth

illmatic was a landmark but there were other albums reinventing the wheel before and right after that... illmatic was basically rakim dialed up to ten, straight outta compton was immense, the chronic reshaped the sound of an entire coast, rza changed the game, cube and public enemy brought a whole new dimension to political rap, outkast were pioneers etc... this take is way too oversimplified lmao
between 87 and 97 the game evolved like crazy on a yearly basis
