I don't hate SMF, I just personally find it to be his most underwhelming project after listening to ever Jeff project 1000+ times

I'm Up era is underrated, maybe Thug wasn't at his most comfortable singing/rapping at that point, but he crafted incredible songs with a very nice atmosphere overall. For My People, King TROUP, F*** Cancer, Hercules, Bread Winners, and Family are all iconic and have aged incredibly well for me.

I respect your breakdown.

It’s all subjective, I totally disagree on I’m up being underrated, in my humble opinion it’s severely underwhelming.

Just How It Is will go down as one of Thug’s greatest songs, and it sets the tone for a “fun” project hence the name.

Y’all wild as s***.. SMF is thug’s hardest album. It’s not the most creative it’s just hard

If we're talking 'hard' from just a pure rap perspective I would say Barter 6 takes the cake with ease IMO

Maybe I got too many hot takes cause I also like SL1 more than SMF and OTR.

I'm also super happy for Thug and would never say he shouldn't have released SMF, man deserved the level of reception he's finally getting years ago. Just a little sad it took some watering down to get that level of stardom. Not his fault in anyway, it's a fun album that sounds great throughout, but there aren't any tracks I can put on that blow me away (even after hearing it thousands of times) like a lot of his songs on prior projects.

Imagine how crazy reception for SS1 would have been if we never got any leaks or singles from it (probably wouldn't exist without the leaks tho)

Barter 6 is a classic album

I wouldn’t describe it as hard, it’s balanced and encompasses prime Thug (bending words, crazy punch in flows, harmonizing, ad-libs, blended with bars) over great production.

The slime season series is hard. It’s just not watered down, Thug was doing Thug things (see the details included in the B6 breakdown) on his own terms.

So Much Fun isn’t as creative or groundbreaking as his earlier work. By the time SMF dropped, all his clones/peers had taken his organic sound and made it more palatable for mainstream listeners...

Thug did several interviews during the SMF press release where he alluded to not being impressed with SMF despite the critical acclaim it got from critics/general listeners lol..

So Much Fun (the fun thug album full of bangers that listeners who wanted to get into Thug but couldn’t catch the wave finally figured it out)
