Lowkey tho @op just made a s*** on kanye fans thread. Either that or he truly didnt really think deeper about this because this phenomenon has been a thing in rap since the early 90s

    can't believe kanye did this

    Gatekeeping is corny and lame.

More fans of hip hop means more money for the artists which means more people making hip hop which means more opportunities for great music to be made which is turn gives back to the fans and creates an endless loop where everyone wins.

    Stop crying.

Nobody wanna hear 100s of white fans screaming the n word back to them on stage. Doesn't matter how much money is being made if it's harmful to the culture

Runaway is the peak of what you're talking about.

I think a lot of people low key like it because it's a criticism of rap culture in general, and they don't even realize that's why they like it.

    Great song though.

i dont see it that way at all. I dont even consider it a rap song. It's just labeled rap cause everytime a black rapper does something experimental its put in the umbrella. Same way tyler won a grammy for igor which definitely wasnt hiphop

Op got a point tho. Ye did draw in those non rap fans that only f*** with rap music if it’s experimental and artsy. Those Ye bringing in the non hip hop fans post 2013 comments didn’t come from nowhere. I will never forget Ye stans use to dismiss everything and used pitchfork and metacritic as their weapon. Dark times.

If anything Ye keeps the spirit of hip hop alive

I love Ye, but it just resonated with me today that Ye is annoying

Guarantee you a ton of rappers would secure the bag if that opportunity presented itself

After Late Reg Kanye was going to inevitably have to start bringing elements and sounds from prototypical "non-black" genres in order to continue his evolution as an artist.

That evolution would naturally endear him more to fans outside the hip hop genre whether he wanted to or not...which he did. But at least in my experience the type of fans who are avid Kanye listeners are VERY different people than the racist Eminem type fans.

There's a difference between expanding and gentrifying a genre. Kanye did one and another very popular artist on this website is much more responsible for doing the other.

Ain't no after Late Reg it started on Late Reg with the orchestra s***

Also if any artist has multiple mainstream hits then that means SOMEONE is going to be listening who didn’t before
Every artist that takes the genre somewhere else is gong. To draw in new ppl

Normies of all sizes are exposed new stuff thru mainstream avenues.

Nirvana was some people’s Intro to punk/rock even tho it was pop centric

yeah usually eminem stans think he is the best and call other rappers “crap”

kanye fans acknowledge other artists. they just hate drake on average (there is some crossover with that tho obviously)

Em, outkast, drake, kendrick, pac, big, kanye, etc

Pretty much every mainstream rapper that has widespread appeal to other demographics has people in their base that says comments like that

I agree with OP but this is correct too

Anyone remember the "if Pac was alive Wayne would work at McDonalds" memes?

    NothingIs

if he respected the art, he’d drop the album instead of touring with theatrics & burning houses to keep his name relevant

    he’s Lin-Manuel Miranda tier

Unlike OP's post this take is absolutely terrible. You're confusing conforming to your standard of what's normal to "respecting the art".

Outside of the Manson stuff, these listening parties have been pretty interesting and forward-thinking. Who are you to decide what should and shouldn't be apart of hip-hop lol
