    Gatekeeping is corny and lame.

More fans of hip hop means more money for the artists which means more people making hip hop which means more opportunities for great music to be made which is turn gives back to the fans and creates an endless loop where everyone wins.

    Stop crying.

This is the same logic France used to justify the colonization of Haiti and s*** and the same logic China uses to rob Africa dry today

Rap has never been more diverse and prosperous. This is the best the genre has ever been in terms of listening.

After Late Reg Kanye was going to inevitably have to start bringing elements and sounds from prototypical "non-black" genres in order to continue his evolution as an artist.

That evolution would naturally endear him more to fans outside the hip hop genre whether he wanted to or not...which he did. But at least in my experience the type of fans who are avid Kanye listeners are VERY different people than the racist Eminem type fans.

There's a difference between expanding and gentrifying a genre. Kanye did one and another very popular artist on this website is much more responsible for doing the other.

  • I agree with ur point about Kanye being the first rapper people who don’t listen to rap get into I’ve seen it many times with people

happens with any critically acclaimed artist really, its s*** but theres always going to be casuals who want the cream but not the coffee. Hell my boy even roasted the hell out of kdot when I showed him S80 then when he got all the acclaim off GKMC all of a sudden boy 'was always a fan'

I am a fan of gate keeping idc. Some people just have no business listening to or speaking on the genre as outsiders of the culture. It's demeaning and harmful

You don’t see what’s wrong with white people?

not when its bringing money and eyes into the culture. who cares what they think people that care about rap fr are still gonna be the heart of hip hop

  • Aug 29, 2021

As a Ye Stan myself, tik tok has opened my eyes to this more than ever, seeing all the ye stans there is interesting cause you can see their profiles and know 90% of them are not well versed in hip hop and the culture.

However this was bound to happen, this is what happens when you reach high levels of artistry within the genre and are able to transcend the genres target market.

In other words, Kanye a goat.
