Sometimes drake sound paranoid in his raps about how a lot of disgruntled people in rap treat him. S*** like this just kind of validates the bars

BFTD is a mixtape so keef wasn’t even established yet, but can you honestly say those songs weren’t made w/ catchy hooks and didn’t have damn near the whole city singing them?

definitely he did but I’m not sure if I’m getting my point across thoroughly

Keef doesnt go into the booth thinking how many records can I sell, what radio station can I get on, what tv platform can I get on etc.

I can say that because when it was his time to crossover he had a clear don’t give a f*** attitude & some would see that as fumbling but that’s some real Hip Hop s*** tbh

That’s why there’s the term “crossing over” because you go from one audience to a mass audience

    Hip Hop to Pop

Many artist strive for that mass appeal at times throughout their career but that is the main intent for artists like Drake

His constant intent on becoming the mass appeal & the willingness to become commercialized over and over again makes people consider him pop

These days it can be confusing because who’s to say Hip Hop isn’t Pop now which creates a whole new convo

Sad you even gotta preface it by being a Kendrick stan we should love all of our legends brother and be unapologetic about it!

I agree 100% dawg. Just wish we could move away from these pointless takes that only lead to further alienation of fans for enjoying a particular artist. Our legends fail us every day with these low brow ass takes to artists who are helping pushing the culture forward for a decade+ now

And as great of a pure MC Wayne has proved himself to be, I still think there’s actually a legitimate argument to be made that he’s not hip hop. It’s kind of a futile and pointless argument, but it could easily be made

Some people even feel like west coast gangsta rap isn’t hip hop, mostly because of the content and lack of the 5th element

    Wayne is 1,000% HipHop

Regardless of what NY bias might say, he was and is still a HipHop artist

Like he’s one of the few rappers to get a hit of a song with bars and no hook

Love Mos Def’s music but i saw him perform in London and he was dry humping the big speakers on the side and just scrolling through his dj’s laptop deciding which songs to randomly half-ass perform

Were niggas calling Wayne pop and acting like he wasn’t hip hop?

It's funny because Wayne sounds like a f***ing Griselda artist compared to where rap went right after lol
