How come every other new album of the big names feels like a variation on the same formula we heard since the last 10 years? I feel like only Blue lips from Q hit me with a fresh sound and even some parts felt like extensions of his previous sound. Is it too daring to innovate in hiphop today? Is rap stuck in time? Even the new wave of rappers doesn't really hit like it did before, innovation wise... Idk man, I'm I just getting old and not tapped in?

Things have changed slightly but most of the user base here experienced how night and day it was with the 2000s turning into the blog era and the blog era turning into the SoundCloud era. Even tho the sounds are more played with and experimental now, it’s like the little brother of the SoundCloud era, image Carti and Uzi in 2016 tryna dress like 2011 Drake and Tyler while rapping over a more distorted Yonkers

Lowkey 2023 ug had the sauce to be super different, it yhapojj stayed relevant, nettspend kept his og sound, plus Xav, I could have seen that as the new super fresh wave but they either fell off or just started making rage

Yeah that could play a part definitely. Also the bubble effect of algorithm I guess... But if you look at sales (not that it's the best gauge) it's either pop or acts that were already popular 10 years ago. Same with concerts and festivals imo.

There is no more originality or innovation. Whatever works is what labels will push. Everybody shuts the same, in all the genres.
