here's one for you
MBDTF and Yeezus are both amazing 10/10 albums!
save this for the hot take thread
5+ minute songs are over indulgent
holy s***
keep in mind I’m a prog and stoner metal fan I’m not saying all 5+ minute songs are indulgent lol I just think mbdtf is with its length just for the sake of it
Niggas f***ing whining in this thread 😭😭😭
Cant have a conflicting opinion these days? No response to the actual critiques jus “you buggin you need to get smacked” “pitchfork comments itt”
NIGGA I WAS THERE ON KTT1 AND USED TO LOVE THIS JOINT I LISTENED TO THE POWER LEAK I WAS THERE EVERY GOOD FRIDAY!
People grow and opinions change, everything looks different in retrospect
Thank uuu
i wonder what would happen if a younger artist like carti, baby, uzi, etc. put that much effort into an album like this
or if they could even do such a thing
Hot take I do think Carti has easily MUSIC went thru 4 different versions with thousands of recorded songs and he went to specific remote locations for different visions to try to create the biggest ultimate mixtape he could it’s just effort doesn’t equate to quality levels per se and Carti’s process is a lot more intuitive than Kanye’s and he doesn’t rly do rockist stuff

Scorching hate take, you need to take more care John these e-streets are not for the faint of heart
Criticisms about “borrowing from white x” are really dumb, ignorant and anti art btw just wanna put that out there imagine being mad at someone pulling influences from music cuz the musician was white wtf lol
This has to be like the worst possible time to be a creative in any facet
Just be a techbro
Yeah it’s over
keep in mind I’m a prog and stoner metal fan I’m not saying it’s due to the length by itself it’s how it uses the length
Nah in the past year I listened to that album more than ever
It’s like watching my favorite movie. I find a new reason to fall in love with it every week man. Made me realize why certain albums get talked about forever. Don’t even have the words to describe how special MBDTF is to me. No bs.
Some moments in music history you just have to appreciate, especially if you got to be apart of it from a cultural standpoint
That’s beautiful I love that for u
Scorching hate take, you need to take more care John these e-streets are not for the faint of heart
leave Bruce Springsteen's band out of this
Id spit on you if you were in front of me op
this is just a personal opinion about MY listening experience i say TO ME in the title
I sort of get what you’re saying but my enjoyment hasn’t waned too much. AOTL/ Monster/ So Appalled are the ones I dont return to and Power is a little overplayed. Everything else still goes crazy imo.
fairs
Album so great Mike Dean is a household name now
Tbh this isn’t what did that it was him coming back for yeezust tlop and working with Travis
“It was basically the start of Kanye being like a fire dj khaled” intense brain rot
I mean in the studio he brings people together to write him verses and basically make most of the beats he’s more of a producer that raps post mbdtf for the most part esp post like yeezus every single song has 20 features lol
When I say this, I mean it’s trying too hard to be perfect. It’s far from perfect. It’s still a classic obv but just my listening experience lol
What I mean is we know Kanye explicitly said he was making that album for people to like him and he made it so it could be seen as a classic, which is fine of course, but the music as a result to me feels
A. Kinda inauthentic I can hear rhymefest spitting every bar of gorgeous I can tell he wrote less on this album
B. Over indulgent and full of itself at times see: hell of a life, blame game, songs being 5+ mins
C. I don’t think it has the very distinct well aged sound of something like 808s or yeezus
D. Kinda melodramatic and it’s trying so hard to be “grand” it gets kinda tiring
Other than that, songs like Hell of a life and blame game I just never ever would play like so appalled is a cool beat and all but 6 minutes is insane
He wrote more on MBDTF than he did on 808s lol, most of the songs have no co-writer credits. Gorgeous does have a Rhymefest credit but he didn't write the entire verse, probably some lines.
That was right around the time when Jay Electronica dropped ‘Exhibit C’ and I remember I said ‘Jay Electronica is the new guy, he’s dope,’ and Ye was real mad, like, ‘What? I’m the guy, I’m the guy’ and he went in and spazzed out on it
complex.com/music/a/andrew-barber/no-id-tells-all-the-stories-behind-his-classic-records
Him rapping in that 'inauthentic style' was in response to Jay Electronica's come-up and No-ID has even said Ye did the verse in front of him.
We legit have early MBDTF freestyles where he's doing most of the verses.
Completely agree about it trying too hard to be perfect. Came to the realization a few years back that it just feels soulless to me

I only come back to monster because the chain always give back pain
