these newer artists have less constraint by labels nowadays fam, let the kids be creative
2000s s*** got played, only Timbo and Pharrell were sonically pushing the genre
Raphael Saadiq (GOAT) supports younger new artists like Lucky Daye
the new generation can put in new ideas, but your closing them off when some of them have more soul then generic r&b singers
they got more artistic clarity over their projects, 2000s s*** was way more limited and good melodies and production was a hattrick back then

Disagree so much about who was pushing the genre forward for me these were the guys doing it
1. Polow Da Don (crazy hitting drums and synths)
2. Eric Hudson (Flashing Lights etc.)
3. Timbaland (Obvious)
4. Neptunes & Pharrell Solo
5. Ryan Leslie (no ones has made music like him)
6. Tim & Bob (who the f*** has drums like them, or Asian samples)
7. Pop & Oak (so much f***ing versatility)
8. Carlos McKinney
9. The-Dream with Tricky Stewart
10. Danja (lowkey the goat of the 00s)
11. S O U N D Z (wow what else to say a legend)
12. StarGate (say what you want they had versatility and class)
13. Dre & Vidal (brought that warm sound into contemporary R&B)
14. Jim Jonsin (synths went HAM)

tbh i feel like the main motivator is production costs
why pay for producers and writers and studio musicians and whole string sections and s*** when u can whip up a spacey trap beat for free and the kids will eat that s*** up
