I don’t think Hamilton is comparable to Donald Trump
You're right, Hamilton much worse
bracing myself for this looming Meet Me In St Louis attempt
God tier.
I'm seeing The Testament of Ann Lee tonight because I could watch Amanda Seyfried in just about anything
Looks weird, hoping this is a curveball as far as musicals go

I liked the non musical parts of Singin In The Rain but every time a song started

It’s one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of the 21st century lmfao
If suicide was the vibe then would you push the button?
I greatly hate musicals. Everyone has pretty much touched on how it makes me feel in the thread.
If I had to try to say the why, I think part of it is that acting out music really cuts through the organicness of it. It feels forced and very rehearsed. Which is by design. I think just the way it’s choreographed and the over the top demonstrative expression and tone makes me cringe every time.

Don’t understand why Hamilton gets treated like the worst thing in the world on here. Is it because Lin is annoying s***lib? There’s so many worse musicals out there that doesn’t get half the disrespect Hamilton does lol
It’s this popular for a reason

I agree but that shouldn’t take away from the greatness of the musical itself. Lin’s musical theater songwriting is actually quite amazing even outside of Hamilton. In The Heights, Moana, Encanto, etc. all have some really incredible musical theater numbers. It’s a shame his personality turns so many people away from his work when it’s really quite good.
I’m glad people actually interacted with this thread though. Very informative and honestly wasnt expecting this to get past the first page lol

So is Taylor Swift and her music is absolutely horrid

The songs in MMISL are not as broadway-esque as singing in the rain
And they are actually more naturally baked into scenes than other mid-century musicals tend to be

The songs accompany the good stuff

done well a musical can be great. people are just bias towards them because they have an idea of what a musical is before they even go into it, and if they end up enjoying it they say it’s just an exception.
musical numbers offer something you can’t get with dialogue in a regular movie. la la land is a great film because it’s a musical rather than in spite of it.
Because the actual music just kinda sucks
I think it’s possible for someone to make a cool musical tho, I just haven’t seen it yet
Notoriously movies never have music in them
i watched no country for old men for the first time a few months ago and realized i don’t like music in movies at all
Why do you think you couldn’t enjoy the things you were “forced” to do as a member of a choir lol
“Forced” is very heavy language when talking about a high school student as apart of an ensemble
Cause we couldnt opt out silly.

And it’s also mad corny. Like most rap musicals.
Im not even the type to s*** on classics like mamma mia (even if it is musical maury) but hamilton is very like actually corny
