But like I wanna know what you feel is corny and annoying about them lol I feel like there’s so many outlets that one could find a musical annoying
In all honesty It's not really fair for me to paint the whole genre with a broad brush like that. Just my impression from my very limited exposure. I've seen a broadway show and a few local performances. Obviously seen Hamilton clips and s*** like that.
I think for me it's just the spontaneous singing and and super exaggerated acting and singing. Just feels like every negative millennial stereotype packaged into a medium, like some disney or harry potter adult type s***.
Once again though my knowledge of musicals is next to none. I'm sure there's some great musicals out there that even I would enjoy. Don't take my initial comment super seriously I just wanted to get a post off.
Wizard Of Oz and Disney classics like Jungle Book/Sword In The Stone the only musical that don't make me want to barf
Musicals try and balance the medium with theatre and its narrative dialogue, which I generally do not enjoy at all

“Balance the medium with theater”
Maybe im reading into this wrong, but idk what you mean by this since “the medium” in this context IS theater. Unless you’re separating musical theater and dramatic theater as two different mediums?

The mediums of music and theater
Usually I don't enjoy the type of music of "musical". I think it's just the theatrical nature of it.
I did see The Book of Mormon live and it was funny.
I also wanted to watch Hell's Kitchen and didn't get to. Would've probably been better because it's just Alicia Keys songs.
comedy writers ain't songwriters
Music and comedy have gone hand in hand for thousands of years
Who said I do 🤨 A Chorus Line, classic. Cabaret, classic. Oklahoma, classic. Porgy and Bess, classic
I’ve enjoyed some musicals but idk I feel like most musicals don’t actually really want to do anything interesting artistically

I'm seeing Book of Mormon when it comes to LA in a couple weeks actually lol
I took an opera history class in college as an elective and went to a few. Opera is a much better experience imo
Every musical I was forced to go to was cheesy and boring but maybe I haven't been to the right ones
I like to watch The Sound of Music with my mom
That’s her favorite ❤️
I don’t mind them
I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch one alone though
The only one that had me like wtf was when they announced the Joker sequel would be a musical lol
I don’t
Hating musicals is the most normie, mid intelligence take ever lol.
People who exclusively watch superhero movies swear they’re smart for hating musicals
I wonder how much the stereotype of “theater kids” plays into people’s disdain for it too
I think this was actually a thing before the theatre kid stereotype was even truly cemented
