If you get mad or even slightly disgruntled that a character has been changed to black, you have hidden racial bias in your mind that you need to address
Being on a mostly hip hop forum doesn't mean that you can't be racist or even slightly racist without realising
I search the first one and there was backlash when Angela played that black woman
I fw Chloe as the Mermaid but caring about people complaining is just as lame
all this African American influence into the story or character then it’s a bit much
you know just how much the character has been b******ized by Disney already? It’s nothing like the original cultural character from Denmark, which most Danes already don’t give af about. Why do we suddenly care about people infusing culture into a character when it’s black culture entering a white culture
he's a troll
also a racist
could be sexist too
s***, you know what
just call him an loser.
This site kinda ass
People don’t want James Bond to be black and while some of it is obvi racism it just doesn’t make sense for him to be black and I wouldn’t like that either

ooh ooh
i found the racist.

People still will take what he says
Might as well dispel it
U mean I understand wanting a character to be represented properly but the double standard is crazy, like if a white person plays another race it's fine but if vice versa it's an issue

I'm a Canon head.
Characters should be represented as they were portrayed in the original source.
If uub is black in the manga and anime.
I shouldn't see him appearing white in a live action movie.
If Ron Weasley is a pale ginger in the books.
He shouldn't be anything but in the live action movie.

you can critisize the source tho
like One Piece
Nico robin with a tan was just >>>>

ngl I feel like alot got to do with Oda maturing
he wrote that s*** over his full life went through phases etc.
At one point it felt like he wanted One Piece to go to a different direction, I feel like currently he toned it down a bit again
Nico robins tan tho she just looked better lmao and its not like it has any significance. In general I would argue more diversity is always more interesting
you telling me thats a whole pirate world and everybody pale?

Yep I agree, don't think its racist to want a character to be represented properly
People need to realize these remakes are adaptions being updated for modern times. Adding more diversity is just adapting it to modern times because we live in a more diverse America
Just like how the new Pinocchio took out any smoking or mention of tobacco
I doubt the live action Peter Pan they’re working on will include the Native American scene the way it is in the animated version
They'll most likely complain that the Native American is changed or removed if they do decide to remake it

Big agree. Random race swaps for no reason kinda irk my brain. Like it just feels like an alternate version rather than straight from the source material. I don’t mind it much and side characters who don’t matter that much
It also feels like sloppy seconds to turn a popular white character into a black version out of the blue. I hate feeling like corporate execs are trying to pander to me. How bout Give us new and original characters instead of black version of white character
That said it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of anything. Just minor pet peeve

If the native Americans are still included the scene won’t have as many stereotypes as the cartoon did and probably won’t be smoking
Also won’t be singing that red man song
Jasmine was played by half white half Indian when Agrabah based on Middle East but no one cared

Why the hell not lol
i mean let’s be real, if they made static shock white people would be outraged as well, i think @Jihyo is right with his first part saying any race feels a type of way when a character of their race gets replaced by another one
edit: for the record, i don’t care about little mermaid, but i do also acknowledge that it’s not only white people that get mad about this
i do understand the outrage when it’s a cultural character obviously, but when i it’s a random super hero (static shock - historically black) or a random disney character (little mermaid - historically white), people within that given race will feel a type of way. it’s not just a white thing
"When they race swapped Ariel I was slightly confused"
Jasmine was played by half white half Indian when Agrabah based on Middle East but no one cared
Also this lmao so many characters have been white washed in the past and it didn't become an issue until very recently, when whites do it it's normal it's just a reinterpreting
I'm white but this makes no f***ing sense to me

Javier Bardem is playing King Triton in the same movie
Pedro Pascal is Joel in Last of Us
It’s only an issue to people in one instance
