then call me a groomer cause i talk to my little cousins about hoes
?????
I have a question for the thread:
Do you guys think there’s ‘objectivity’ to genre standards? Like a ‘good’ hiphop song or a ‘good’ country song etc?
I think there’s objectivity in classifying a song to a genre
And there’s objectivity to how well a song fits within genre norms/constraints
And I think at a base level you can make objective comparisons like “Life’s a B**** is objectively better than like x song from Revival” but I think that you can’t be objective about say Life’s a B**** vs like Heart of the City
its a perfect example because playlist exist...the most popular artist are being marketed at a higher level than the less popular ones..radio also plays apart in the marketing.
if you dont pay for spotifty, the only songs you get at random are popular songs...
so this is wrong...
popular music is marketed in a certain way so most people can hear it..
that's why most casual fans think HUMBLE by Kendrick, they think Gods Plan by Drake etc are their best songs and that's far from the truth
No one I know is saying that HUMBLE and Gods Plan are their best songs
Dont lie

“why are you complaining about billionaires when you broke on the bus?”
i would’ve agreed with you if we’re in 2005, but fam we in 2021. radio is just about obsolete, streaming and the internet have took over everything in the music industry. and what is one of the first sites that usually comes up when trying to get more information about an artist? pitchfork.
What I’m saying is that 95% of people don’t care enough to get more information about an artist
I feel like you’re biasing your view point on the fact that everyone here is an enormous music nerd lol most the people you encounter day to day listen to music and that’s about it in terms of their actions around music
Drake is the one of the few examples where popularity and quality coexist
