I understand the "keep grinding" mindset, but fyi that's where people like Bezos want you to keep your attention. Keep staring down working out your pennies while they fleece the neighborhoods we live in.

I think you're talking past each other.
Jean, I think no one of us have something against people who work hard and contribute real value to society, the problem lies with those who make money based of already amassed wealth through interest, short-term stock market trading (aka casino) or virtual products like bitcoins f.e., creating no real physical value in the process, while envoking inflation of the economy for the rest of us and at the same time avoiding taxes.
And if you think you shouldn't care about the government, think twice, the government is a representation of solidarity, a societal contract we have all joined. If there is no solidarity anymore what do you think will happen? Those who are less well off will rebel, all the money you have in your account and the status you've achieved will be worth nothing if society becomes unstable.
Also you have to keep in mind that not everyone has the education nor the opportunities you have and that some of the richess at these billionaires have amassed comes from exploiting people in countries with corrupt governments who don't have the means nor the perspective or input to rise up. The exploit of those people is indirectly funding the prosperity of countries like America and this is in fact an injustice we can not overlook.

Synopsis, as I already wrote in the Socialism thread, it's also up to us to go out there and educate people through projects f.e. on how they can transform their societies and how they can make a living for themselves. It won't help to deny that the world functioning through a capitalist system, as long as there isn't a global uprising of the whole work force at the same time, which will be very unlikely, the change wont happen. So one of the things we can do is helping those people to rise up in their momentary socio-economic status by giving them the means to do so (f.e. education, access to the market, labour skills, possibilities to realize their ideas) so they can educate themselves, while at the same time teaching them why collectivism is important, so they don't forget why solidarity is a must when they've finally empowered themselves. And yes, it will be a long process.

Buying something like a company (in billions) is not the same thing as having billions in cash. "Anything he wants" being what, something worth a million? You can't buy s*** in amazon stock. He has probably 100 mil or less in actual spendable cash on hand for something like donations

Bezos makes products that help millions and employs 750,000(!) people. I'd rather people like him and Bill Gates (trying to get rid of malaria) use their money to change the world. This is how we advance society.
