Em is one of the best to ever do it for sure.

The reason why he’s judged so harshly nowadays is a combination of things but I think the gist of it is this:

-White rapper

-Huge portion of his fanbase hates Hip-Hop and is unsubtly just racist (definitely not as much since he alienated them in 2017)

-Has been ass for about as long as he’s been good (1997 to MAYBE 2010 with misses in between vs 2011-2023 where it was mostly misses)

-He didn’t start dropping mid music, he started dropping COMPLETE GARBAGE.

-His style of lyrical content was controversial even at the time and doesn’t translate nearly as well today.

-He didn’t die in the 2000s (It’s an amazing, beautiful thing that he’s still here with us. But he has to become old and uncool slowly in front of everyone’s eyes. That is a crisis that every legendary artist will have to contend with at some point and some artists struggle with transitioning and aging.

-He has a profound love for Hip-Hop which he expresses in a way that’s considered outdated and corny to a lot of young people today.

-His fast choppy flow has been wearing thin.

All this being said, Eminem is about to pass Drake as the rapper with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. He’s widely loved still and his old music is constantly being rediscovered on TikTok by young kids who stream it like it’s new.

Man I'm sorry, his recent releases are unlistenable to me. And I LOVED his old s***.

I still hop on YouTube every once in awhile to listen to unreleased s*** like Demon Inside, Desperados, and the King Tech & Sway Anthem.

But the music he's putting out now is f***ing awful. His voice is terrible now. The choppy flows don't work for him. His punchlines are cringe af. I just can't. He was at his best when he wasnt trying so damn hard.

I grew up a fan of Eminem. But honestly even his "classics" just haven't aged well imo. His edginess is just cringe to me and his newer music is even worse.

He's extremely technically skilled but he comes off as an angsty angry white boy and it's the kind of cringe high schoolers listen to

If you still get enjoyment out of his music, new or old, more power to you. But popular opinion shifted on him for a reason
