Who had a bigger impact on the other's career as an artist?

These two first linked up for The Dynasty: Roc La Familia album in 2000 and have had an unstoppable run for several years since, that seen both men reach heights that artists can only dream of while becoming billionaires in the process.

    ngl this a dumb question

  • Their iconic moments are so intertwined that it's hard to put this down into who impacted who

Jay wouldn’t have made it as far without Ye

  • Nov 3, 2024

it evens out but it’s well documented now, Hov didn’t actually see the big picture with Ye, Ye is like 70% responsible for Hov pushing through the 2010s and Roca Fella being seen in a fond light instead of as a relic

  • Ye definitely revised and rejuvenated Jay-Z’s career and approach to music. Especially post Black Album.

Ye gave HOV some of his best production of all time and all he got in return were HOV’s woat features.

Jay's best album isn't possible without ye. But jay put ye on the map as a producer

  • Nov 3, 2024

Initially it seems obvious to say Ye had more of the influence on Jay but without Roc a Fella early mainstream influence and aesthetic/combined with the juxtaposition of what type of music Ye was making, Kanye would have just been a better dressed Black Star/Little Brother with a few mid 2000’s MTV/BET Video Block hits

The guy who made 808s and Heartbreak and MBDTF started out as the backpacker on Roc A Fella. I think that means more than Hov getting a few synthy type beats for Bp3 and the Wtt era influence. The soul era wouldnt have hit the same with just 9th, bink and blaze but it still could have happened

Ye stan/Hov hater ima still say Jay Z just cause he was first changed his life forever

  • Nov 3, 2024

Jay arguably inspired Ye to rap in the 1st place on top of signing him.

    But, overall, Ye.

Not only was Ye's presence felt on Blueprint's production but the whole 2009-2013 era of Jay-Z was heavily influenced by Kanye from the style of music he was making to the fashion and aesthetic.

    Big brother exists

  • Nov 3, 2024

Both. Jay gave Ye his biggest chance and Ye repaid it by helping prolong his brother’s career/business

  • One of the stalest topics in the genre

    ngl this a dumb question

  • Nov 3, 2024

They were very important to each other but id say Jay was more important to Ye

Hov was already a legend when he worked with Ye for the first time

  • Nov 3, 2024

Kanye rescued Jay after Kingdom Come flop and tricking Dame with the fake retirement

Jay the first half on kanye

Kanye the second half on jay

The later half of Jay’s relevancy and career is due to Ye.

Idk how much Hov impacted Ye’s career outside being able to put him on. Maybe a little musically. But Ye has always had an eclectic taste in music and inspiration.

So I'd definitely say Ye is the only reason we still talking about Jay

Lmaoo what? Nigga he got a complete rollout being affiliated with prime roc a fella to make himself stand out even more

He just woulda been a “watered down mainstream backpacker” on rawkus or Loud or just another random nigga on capitol or columbia but Roc A Fella gave him lore and contrast

The music spoke for itself brother, he could dropped those first 3 albums on any label and they’d still be goated regardless

Lmaoo bro i get why old niggas hate our generation

Hov would be Hov if Ye didnt exist just off of 96-04. If anything following behind Ye post Graduation/808s/MBDTF (which is mostly the era yall referring to) left Hov in a weird place musically aside from WTT. Nobody looks at songs like Hate or Already Home as the greatest Hov songs ever lol. Also Peep the gap between MCHG and 4:44, he would have been better off going more the Roc Marciano type beat or Harry Fraud direction (basically fw everything that was happening in the NY underground in early 2010’s) in the early 2010’s and the projects from that timeframe would actually probably be MORE musically relevant to actual purists since not like Hov is a hit records type of guy anyway. Lmaoo maybe even AraabMuzik. Hov using Ye as the cheat code for cool in the early 2010’s actually kinda put him in a weird place musically lol

    This thread reminds me

Drake really needs his own version of Kanye if he wants to still be relevant in Hip Hip imo
