Lupe could have been Kendrick if he had a better team around him, but he's always been a little behind in terms of hooks and production. There's a reason why Lupe's attempt at a pop rap crossover was Lasers and Kendrick's was DAMN.

I can see why some people would go to hooks and production but the actual difference is Kendrick is willing to play the game and say the messages that the higher ups are okay with. Lupe is realer and more of a threat to the system
