So he was ass and started rapping decently again?

That seems like a him problem, TBH

yes MCHG was mid and then he put out a great album, arguably a classic. Whats your point?
Plenty of artists drop garbage or mid and then make an artistic comeback

That's my point exactly. Lots of artists drop mid and then have a comeback.

That's no reason to claim the comeback is a classic or the ideal.

to me its a classic due to his performance on it, the incredible production, having pretty much 0 filler, the tracklist sequencing is great, and yes the lyrical content is good too.
Im not pretending hes the first artist or rapper to rap on social or personal issues.
But he chose to do it and im gonna give him credit for having substance in his album

Just because other rappers talked about more mature topics before him doesnt mean he cant do it either. Especially since alot of the topics on 4:44 are PERSONAL so nobody else really could touch on those besides Jay

we can rate it whatever but that doesnt matter when talking bout a "classic". it made waves in the rap community and has undeniable consensus appeal for the general public.

no. they were artists who added credibility to the thought because what they put out was equally good, if not better. i'm saying jay's album reinforced the idea and he was one of the most prominent to prove it could work on a mainstream level. and there will be more after him
