There is a very particular way that reality is supposed to go. But there's inherent randomness in the system that causes infinite branching alternate realities and dreams are the manifestation of these alternate realities

It's like euler Lagrange. The system is attempting to find a global minima but the trajectory is not fixed, it happens spontaneously and tiny potentials fizzle out every moment
