people dont remember but Wale was the main hipster rap guy next to Cudi. IMO, Wale,Cudi and Drake were supposed to be the big 3

I think Wale saw the amount of success those two were having during that with how they pivoted with styles and genres and he decided to go with Ross, which again, I think was a horrible move but maybe Ross had a contract that made more sense for Wale

Wale was working with Mark Ronson and J.U.S.T.I.C.E and alot lf European affiliations, and idk how he felt about it but I just think he should’ve stayed in that lane a little longer.
He should’ve stayed the rappers rapper that could hop on a jazzy beat and some electronic s***

    What is he holding

    What is he holding

    Stack of cards

He's in the middle of shuffling and fidgeting with them

  • May 2

What killed Wale's career was all the self destructing and embarrassing ish he was doing on twitter like the complex meltdown and s*** which also got him "blackballed" while simultaneously ruining his image making him seem emotionally soft and overly bitter on the littlest things

Idk what everyone else talm bout

Cudi and Drake definitely changed the game

Wale didn’t live up to his potential but he had a decent career too and a solid fanbase

listen to 100 Miles & Running by Wale.
arguably the best blog era mixtape. I remeber magazines was saying he was the next Ye/Jay-Z hybrid rapper.

I don’t know why but Wale never had strong core fan base, it’s tough for an artist to last without it.

Core fans hold an artist down with or without having to have a hit record or #1 album. Their support supersedes whatever the culture thinks about that artist.

Of course the are people that like his hit records but that’s where it ends. I’ve never run into anyone that’s passionate about Wale or his music.

  • hosting walemania and getting c&d by wwe

When Bad came out I thought this was the moment he would get to really establish his core but sadly it never happened. Also, he cares maybe a lil too much.

Maybe this is one of my psychosis takes but I feel like he was early to a lane but was overshadowed by bigger artists like Kid Cudi, Drake, Kendrick, Wiz Khalifa.

I feel as if he just slowly started losing his identity and peak levels of pull when culture shifted past hypebeast fashion.

Him and Big Sean are in the same boat.

  • he shoulda been moving like ace hood

Big Sean has way more talent and personality imo

Ya like never even seen anyone on the internet even claim to be a wale Stan

  • his boring mid music and corny personality

  • May 3

The era he came up in was very competitive/ over saturated

    Smino,krit, wale all still impressive

  • I don’t even like Wale but you niggas gotta stop perpetuating these narratives like these niggas just be out here living on the street or something. Bruh is doing just fine. He has his fans, he has his music, he’s making his money. There’s nothing else for a nigga to ask for even though he constantly does which is what makes him f***ing annoying but just because the nigga isn’t some constant trending topic and I don’t f*** with him personally, doesn’t mean his f***ing career is over

Nah, it's not that. I'm aware he has a strong base.

And I dont think his career is over (or was killed lol) it's that the other stans from the artist I mentioned just have a stronger communities, critically acclaimed albums, and support levels.

And let’s not act like MMG Wale was loved the whole time there was a solid 3–4 year stretch where people weren’t really rocking with him like that..and then other people came a long and a lot of his peers soared (Drake, J Cole, Kendrick, Big Sean, Meek Mill)

There was a Big 3 narrative that did not include him!

  • Also in Wale's defense

This song is big on Radio

  • I see both sides.

  • he had some cool projects but idk if it was a label thing or personal ambition but i wasn't rly rocking with him after Ambition it was a huge shift in style and then Shine onward it got even worse

  • mixtape about nothing is one of the coolest mixtapes ever though and imo attention deficit and ambition is solid
