    His career was killed?

  • shouldve stayed in his hipster/backpack rap bag tbh. I think when he signed to Maybach it took away from thr essence of what made Wale special. Sure he had some success but no longevity

Wale was supposed to be a premier rapper (until Drake came)

people dont remember but Wale was the main hipster rap guy next to Cudi. IMO, Wale,Cudi and Drake were supposed to be the big 3

I think Wale saw the amount of success those two were having during that with how they pivoted with styles and genres and he decided to go with Ross, which again, I think was a horrible move but maybe Ross had a contract that made more sense for Wale

Wale was working with Mark Ronson and J.U.S.T.I.C.E and alot lf European affiliations, and idk how he felt about it but I just think he should’ve stayed in that lane a little longer.
He should’ve stayed the rappers rapper that could hop on a jazzy beat and some electronic s***

    His career was killed?

my last reply, but no his career wasnt killed but Wale is a great example of missed opportunities and potential. I remember all the magazines and blogs that prophesied Wale was the next guy up. It was like Wale and Cudi were the new eras Jay-Z & Nas (thats a stretch-stay with me) the point is, Wale was the face of an era for a brief period of time (before Drake came) and it sorta scrambled Wale, and alot of other artist.

Id like to write a post soon on how Drake was/is such an anomaly and glitch in the matrix. alot of niggas kinda thought their careers and status was gonna go in a certain direction and Drake kinda upended that. He changed the whole structure of the game.
Sorry to make this theead about Drake, but that business model and range he came into the game with threw everyone off

When So Far Gone came out I wasn’t old enough to understand the whole game like I do now but Drake definitely didn’t make sense in all facets he upended whatever was going on musically, commercially, etc nobody knew what to do with him

  • Wale had a good run some good hits and good albums and has a fanbase that loves him maybe he wasn’t all rap first team but he has plaques to go around

Had his succes early in the blog era, but just got washed by artists with better and newer sounds. Drake, Rocky, Kendrick. Him and J. Cole are/were in a very similar lane, but the latter is better at building a fan base, more relatable.

Still think he’s underrated and had a decent career with genuine hits. But no real album to really solidify greatness.

  • Having no charisma

  • Being Wale

Yea I remember when he first came out and it really threw everyone off guard because of his range and marketabilty. He was rapping over raw hip hop beats and also able to play with experimental sounds like Lykke Linand Santigold. He was the whole package.
everyone thought “Best I Ever Had” was corny but he proved commercial and alternative success.

I truly believe alot of rappers were bitter about Drake for long time.

I saw Wale at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
