the problem with em is he hasnt had a great project in well over a decade so the younger gen only knows him from the memes and shouting music

most dont know that he signed 50 when everyone else was scared to and refused to sign him, stan and renegade slang is from him, 8 mile was way more influential then people are making it seem like, etc

and i dont even fw em anymore. i used to when i was a kid - but literally everyone did back then.. i'm old (34) so i vividly remember his prime... he was everywhere and everyone was f***ing with him

    Replies proving your point

Renegade and Stan wouldn’t exist without him. Aftermath probably wouldn’t have taken off. 50 cent never gets signed. He helped turn millions into legit hip hop heads .

and kanye never changed the guard of hip hop in 07

Stan and renegade slang is from Nas, not Eminem. Without Nas, those are just song titles. Nas was the first to use them as slang in Ether. Eminem has had zero cultural impact on hip hop

Ether, stan and renegade are the holy trinity of rap slang terms that spawned from Nas in 2001

This is not true. Nas used it in a song first but people were saying it beforehand. And I love Nas

Renegade has nothing to do with Nas from a term standpoint point, again that was already the narrative and people were saying it. People use renegade to describe someone who kills someone on their own song. And people said em killed Jay on that song (whether that is still true is up for debate)

And even if you want to remove those, Eminem signed 50 when no one else would because of street beef, diddy, Jay, whoever. Are you saying 50 cent wasn’t impactful to hip hop? Because if you think he is, then you must agree Em has that legacy in rap, since he took to the leap to sign him. 50 cent said it himself

Any anyway, even if you want to credit Stan to Nas, are you saying that someone who creates a term that is then popularized elsewhere doesn’t have claim or legacy over it? Because that is never how it works with anything else

Who do we give credit for the slang term “bodied”

The person who first used it in that way?

Or the person who literally invented the word body thousands of years ago

Em never had the pull to create a slang term. It was Nas who had that pull. If he never calls Jay a stan, if he never says em murdered him, these terms don’t exist. It’s that simple

Source on people saying it beforehand? We’re only talking about a period of less than 2 years. Were you outside then?
