Eminem’s Recovery won over MBDTF. Macklemore’s album won over GKMC, NWTS and Yeezus. Their reputation will forever be tarnished

If people want awards based on charts there’s what the billboard awards are for. Grammy highlights the artistry of music

Do they, though? Did Taylor Swift display more artistry with 1989 than Kendrick Lamar did with TPAB?

    None of this s*** matters

    Charts actually matter. Fact

    Are the people listening?

You see, streaming numbers are very important

They actually GAUGE what the people care about whether you think it's good or not

None of this nerdy critical s***, or whether something is "well-crafted" or "conceptual"

I stopped caring about award shows in general for a long time. I don’t know why artist keep seeking validation from these lame ass award shows. I would think as an artist, selling out venues would be the only validation I need.

Honestly don’t have a full thought to OP but I was watching bc my gf had it on for a bit and it felt so dystopian like straight out of The Hunger Games so I think dialing that down would be a start to seem more about music and less about famous people getting off on being famous

One minute it’s about who has the biggest album next minute it’s about who album was more acclaimed

    Like be more consistent

I think the real answer is to have an alternative for black culture that actually is relevant in today’s world. I know we have the BET awards but I think yall know what I mean that has no meaning anymore especially considering BET is not minority owned

    Consistent how though lmao ?

Should they lean more towards the biggest album every year (Taylor Swift) or the more “acclaimed” album every year (Jon Batiste)

I’d argue their lack of consistency in one way or the other is the most “fair” way to do it idk

I think a lot of it had to do with the presentation and Trevor Noah lol no shade to him but it was very off putting. Then idk I guess compared to the award shows from the 00s which is what I spent a lot of time watching the energy just seemed a lot more stuck up which is non tangible but I’m sure I’m not the only one that felt that way

Seems slippery to kinda just…have black people erase themselves from the Grammys entirely if that’s what ur saying, because unfortunately the Grammys “prestige” isn’t going away any time

This topic specifically was discussed in another Grammy thread earlier today

I don’t like Kdot but they can’t be right all the time. Taylor has the pulse of the everyday basic American girl I can’t fault them for picking that. The heist over GKMC however was

That’s a good point I guess I don’t really have a good answer per se maybe not to disassociate but to have an alternative that is just as valid would be a start! Good topic to think on tbh

Respect but do u see how ur counteracting what u said before?

Not a diss btw this topic is just hard to boil down to one “correct” answer

They should pick one or the other either focus on the “biggest” or “acclaimed” because it doesn’t make sense

I’ve seen people argue taylor won aoty because she had the biggest album and that’s what the grammys based it off, I’m like how is that the case when killer mike swept the rap category based off an acclaimed album i don't even think he cracked 50k first week lmao

Batiste winning over Sour and Happier Than Ever that year was some crazy work no lie

    Who even was that guy?

And also Beck in 2014 or whatever year Kanye nearly upstaged him

It seems to be about both at once. But in a “which nominee is more of one than the other nominees are either” sorta way
