Ya but thats kinda my point. Drake's career rn is almost the same trajectory of the second half of Em's career, Drake is just the pop-rap version.

No that’s lil Wayne you’re thinking of

All of this is facts, but this still doesn’t answer the question on how Drake can be viewed as pop and Future isn’t.

Drake has topics that he talks about the same way Future does. Both rap, both sing, both make music for the charts and the clubs and the radio. Both have songs catering to women and both have songs catering to men. Both drop project after project in attempts to maintain relevance in the audience’s ear.

Future is my third favorite rapper of all time but we’re not about to sit here and act like he’s some socially conscious artist that can’t possibly be classified as pop. Him and Drake are extremely similar artists (especially post-2015), so there’s no reason why Drake is pop and Future isn’t

One made Hold On We're Going Home and Hotline Bling, the other didn't.

  • Well your post explains it.
You been blindly sucking drakes p**** since you were 11. of course he can do no wrong to you.
Everyone else sees he is a fraud. a 6 fraud of sorts.

Tbh i dont get it either. Im a pure nyc backpacker wu tang mobb deep mf doom can ox type of guy and yes at first I didnt like him either because he sounded cookie cutter.

But over the years drake, mostly when I was out having fun and living life in my early to mid 20s, I found him to be great. It seemed like after his second album dropped, that going home track, I liked every single song from then until YEARS later. That in itself is amazing because I never like that stuff that much.

He has evolved his style and put out some great music. Bar none the best TEAM in the game year in and year out. As someone who also makes music and is on the opposite side of the spectrum, my friends and I see him as one of the greats who we’d love to work with. He put his time in. He has a legendary mcs catalog of work. Its undeniable imo.

But some people just cant get over certain s***. The guys a popstar first and foremost. Yet people put ughh restrictions on him. Hes beyond that, especially at this point.

Ive never even put one of his albums on; because you can just put on the radio and hear it all anyway. The guys a legend in popular music idgaf. The next closest rappers are still way behind. Jcole atleast produced his own stuff so id say hes closest. Kendrick costed off that west coast cosign, we’ll see what he do next.

But then its a wide gap to the next set of big rappers at the top level.

so your not a pure nyc backpacker if your early 20s was filled with drake.
My early 20s was filled with Max B (pop rap) and Jedi Mind Tricks type ah shyt.
Even my pop taste was more gangster.
