They try to compare hundreds of years of slavery to men getting dirty looks for wearing dresses.

    Smh.

You're making a disingenuous argument to try to get a cheap "gotcha" moment. Read my post and try again

Being miseducated doesn't absolve a transphobic statement from being transphobic

That’s true, maybe I shouldn’t even have commented, my original comment was off the tweet alone. But you not lying. Can’t hate

Nobody is saying the transgender struggle is even comparable to the black struggle. People are saying we have demonstrable examples of the outcomes of being silent in the face of discrimination and it should never happen again for the sake of humanity.

There's levels to this and if we're talking about discrimination, Black people are still being murdered and minimized and violated in all kinds of ways.

Let's fix that FIRST instead of dividing focus to protest for other groups who are "minimized" by society.

Cause a white gay man is still white and will still be treated better then a black straight man in most cases

  • liltunechi

Facts but for some reason people like to pretend like black men the face of it

It’s cause black men are unfairly portrayed as hyper-masculine and transphobia and homophobia are usually attributed to hyper-masculinity. In reality, I’d say that the levels of homophobia in the black community are equivalent to the levels of homophobia in latino and conservative white communities. Overall, the level of homophobia in all those communities still pale in comparison to the level of homophobia in middle eastern/Muslim communities.

Why should it not be made though? We have examples in history of marginalized groups being mass discriminated against (albeit at an INSANELY different level of severity) and nobody doing anything about it. Why can we not learn from this mistake and hope people do not do the same in regards to trans people?

Well it shouldn’t be compared because it divides the original statement. It just ain’t the same but I feel where you coming from

You don't have to pick and choose though? You can simultaneously be pro black-lives and also call out discrimination against trans people

Like Griselda so this is disappointing. It's just really not that difficult to mind your business and let people do what makes them happy

They almost exclusively rap about shooting people in the brains and selling cocaine

I obviously condemn this tweet/his attitude, but why do you draw the line here lol

I’m trying to figure out how he was promoting negativity towards trans. From the tweet it just looks like he doesn’t agree with the lifestyle. He didn’t say anything violent or hateful he just said it was crazy to him

    That’s what I was saying.

I think there's a part of me that just doesn't get what type of hurt or reaction there could be when somebody makes an argument like this because I'm not black which could play into me missing something on this. I don't think anyone making this point is trying to downplay racism or the effects it's had on our society, I really think it comes from a well-intentioned place of "We have an example of how f***ed up humans can be and that damage still exists today, we should never allow that to happen again" is my view on it.

Of course, but 13-15 year olds are out there willingly having sex. An adult having s***with them is still pedophilia, even if the minor looks like an adult. Pedophilia doesn’t just apply to little ass kids which your response only covers bases towards them. What about teens?

Pedophilia is a mental disorder that makes you attracted to young children while attraction to teens is a moral issue but not a medical condition. However as a society we decided that consent could not be given when you’re under 18 (or 16 or 21 depending on the country) so my answer is about teens too.

No? Let's fix both at the same time. This isn't an either/or situation and you need to stop deflecting to try to make it seem like people are ignoring black struggles by defending trans people. I can assure you that virtually EVERYONE who cares about trans rights fully supports BLM. I've been to 7 different protests this year for BLM and at one point I got tear gas in my eyes that was so bad I had to go to the hospital. I've donated to a ton of causes. I do everything I can to educate my ignorant family members and friends. Doesn't mean I can't also fight for trans rights and acceptance. We as a society can do better in all areas

This may be hard for you to believe now but 100 years ago when it was pretty unthinkable for whites and blacks to date it would've also been viewed as bewilderment over rapidly changing racial politics in the same way that (hopefully) 100 years from now people will rightfully look back on current times and say damn i can't believe how much hatred people had for transgender people. Racism back then was certainly more vicious than transphobia now, but that doesn't excuse transphobia. This isn't a competition. Justifying hatred based on the environment you grew up in is stupid in both cases

My nigga, you dont know black history so please stop pimping it to push for trans support. You dont need it, respectfully.

I want you to go through your post again and realize how you went from bewildermen to hate again, these are not the same thing.

And you cant claim it’s not a competition while you and many others keep bringing up the 400+ years of state sanctioned VIOLENCE and abuse against a people for their skin color to drum up support for trans people to be recognized as their gender and be treated fairly by their fellow man.

Hell black people are still fighting for their humanity right now lol

    It divided the focus.

Historically who has been more oppressed and minimized in the United States? For hundreds of years.

Again, this is not the same fight and only serves to weaken our numbers.

    Black transsexuals are BLACK FIRST.

Well are you saying that that we shouldnt address trans issues because it's not related to black issues? Or are you saying that we shouldn't address their specific plight? Both are wrong. To be comparative in this is very reductionist, there are LGBTQ, straight/cis, male, female black people and while the issues which face them all should be the forefront, to say that it diverts focus to acknowledge a specific is simply not true. If we can't acknowledge the nuances then how would we go about fixing at all? It doesn't "divert" focus to point the specific struggles a specific people in the black community face. All it does is add another obstacle to overcome. If we can't even acknowledge their struggles, and we isolate them to outside the black community, then we're only adding to the problems.

White LGBT folks have always had the option, no matter how painful, to keep their orientation private and escape discrimination.

Blacks dont have that option. We are black 24/7/365
