Ironically he would’ve been more appealing to the younger crowd if he wouldn’t have tried so hard to appeal to them in ways that seemed to stunt his growth
Kendrick is popular with that demographic especially now between the beef and songs like Money Trees/Swimming Pools getting massive second winds because new music fans are finding it through TikTok or wherever else
Drake has that effect with songs like Best I Ever Had, Fancy, Practice etc picking up a cult following in recent times. With a catalogue like his, he could have maintained his popularity (and dignity) if he played it straight.
Look at Sade. She’s obviously always been massive but she’s found a new, younger audience organically without even having to do anything. Same goes for Frank and Early Eminem on some level.
This is clearly the result of pushing out music constantly since 2020, as well as that music being his worst. FATD was such a boring and uninspired album. He should taken a break after Her Loss which is imo his last great project since More Life.
First Person Shooter - 2x platinum eligible (20 weeks charting, recurrent)
IDGAF - 2x platinum eligible (20 weeks charting, recurrent)
Rich Baby Daddy - 2x platinum eligible (22 weeks, recurrent)
Slime You Out - platinum eligible (14 weeks on chart)
Virginia Beach - platinum eligible (14 weeks on chart)
You Broke My Heart - platinum eligible (19 weeks on chart)
None of those were really hits for Drake though. Closest ones to being hits weren't even because of Drake ( IDGAF and RBD )
Drake that ''fell off'' had 10 million more streams than Kendrick yesterday, despite kendrick having 2 of his biggest songs ever out rn while Drake doesn't have a mega hit pulling his numbers
What a fall off!

only 2 here that drake would get credit for is you broke my heart and Virginia Beach. IDGAF is a Yeat song with his part being the biggest. RBD success isn't possible without sexy redd tiktok viral part, FPS Cole best verse, slime you out ehhh ig

This isn't a Kendrick vs Drake thread. This is the state of Drake's career

this is because of his previous catalogue goofy, he has hit records upon hit records, "fall off" means the future music now past

And I provided you with evidence that nothing has changed in terms of his success.
Drake is like John Cena. He's still on top because a Roman Reigns/Cody Rhodes hasn't come through yet.
may be one of the more appropriate comparisons I've seen on this site

But I thought people are clowning him now, looking at his past as him taking advantage of other rappers and areas, so therefore they don't f*** with him. Yet they still listen? Interesting, thank you.
why are kendrick fans always reaching lol
u won u don't have to be coping n sht. drake literally has quadruple the amt of monthly listeners that she has, he is clearly still the bigger act.
DaBaby has about as many monthly listeners as Thug and more than Keef, Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson combined
while we're discussing arbitrary statuses like "hotter" and "relevant", idk if monthly listeners is a good indicator of how someone is currently considered. DaBaby just had some massive hits in the beginning of this decade that are going to be played OD for years and years
I was also going to make a Drake and Kendrick point when it came to monthly listeners but them niggas damn near got the same amount now
its been a hell of a year for Kendog

The point I’d make about monthly listeners is that it counts everyone who listened to one song by that particular artist in a 28 day period and Drake is the most autoplayed rapper on every platform.
historically there's really been very few artists in that top of the mainstream lane that had a good decline going into their late 30s/40s. Jay pretty much wiped away the potential L that AG was with the massive BP3 and WTT. MCHG wasn't amazing but it did numbers then he pretty much dipped until 4:44 which was a critical W. But his secret was just NOT making as much music as he got older
Wayne was dropping OD and then just stopped. I don't really know how to evaluate where he is compared to where he was after say 2012. Em...bro.
I can't think of too many rappers that are megastars that attempted to increase their exposure as they got older, but I guess this generation is much different than the challenges those guys had at the same point

yeah the overarching point was that its just such a terrible determinant for relevancy. the post you quoted was just like a side note of that
I dunno how long we'd get to before the gap between those two becomes closer to what you'd expect. Kendrick's 2024 songs s*** on Drake's so ppl are gonna be running those back for a minute (plus they'll get a bump from his concert next week).
Before that beef, I would think Kendrick would be tens of millions less, but I have no clue what his numbers looked like before that
OvHoes in here fighting for their lives.
They always get really upset when anyone even insinuates a Drake fall off :jordanlaff3:
And I provided you with evidence that nothing has changed in terms of his success.
Your evidence was comparing Drake's numbers to Kendrick instead of comparing Drake to his own previous numbers. Probably because it would tell a different story
Its over for being dominant #1 hitmaker drake it seems but he still makes good s*** stop throating kendrick laprechaunmar
And i say that bc of clb and fatd not really having hits
They’re pretty ass tho

OP ain’t even mention Kendrick. yall stans got ptsd from the beef 😭

Which previous numbers do you want me to compare it with? He has been at the top of the game for 15 years straight. If you struggle to understand gradual change then no one can help you
honestly gonna have to agree tbh. drakes era of "constant hits" and having nonstop chart topping songs has definitely faded away at this point. he's no doubt still one of the biggest in the world but his hit status and "stimulus effect" currently doesnt even compare to what it was a few years ago.
