If the news is true then you are underestimating the power of quantum computing.

We have satellites able to shoot rays, nuclear and chemical weapons and the ability to “bomb” and change the weather.

With quantum computers you would be able to hack anything and end any city or human being in seconds. Not only that, we would be able to investigate more about energy and even be able to change the matter! . Very very crazy and scary news (if true) .

mathematically…this was always going to happen. they are always working on new cryptographic methods for this reason. more computational power = better brute force

Nobody has access to these kinds of computers outside of a very few research areas. And this news is about a one instance recorded under Google's research department.

This is worse than the s*** with AI, back in 2022 everybody was like “this sucks” and now they all afraid of its power and reach.

Right now some cant even tell the difference between AI videos and reality, but give it a few years and reality shift would be at the hands of the richest.

Governments have had pre-quantum security measures in place for many years, and that's even if the unlikelihood that any government in the world would try to escalate an attack to that level since it would end in either traded neutralization or MAD.

AI, or really AGI, is definitely the bigger concern since it will be far more widespread and accessible across the globe, and harder to detect the place or person(s) of origin if attacks did occur. On the other hand, that concern can easily be (and currently is) weaponized against citizens. Governments and the tech's power players can easily use this tactic, like they have multiple times in the past century, to force surreptitious AGI model regulation under the guise of "caution" and "national security", resulting in general populations giving up their rights to become essentially slaves under an AGI-controlled surveillance state.
