nooo not quantum computing!

I didn’t know what to expect opening this thread, but I did expect more than this
Can someone explain what this means and why it would be good and or bad
What’s quantum operation
yeah but Kingdom Hearts 4 soon come
Can someone explain what this means and why it would be good and or bad
It would break any pre quantum encryption.
So 98% of the 'secure' internet could be exposed overnight
thought this was gonna be something like amoc collapse, a blue ocean event, how sea surface temperature is 3.4c above the 1991-2020 baseline, or how food these days has ~50% fewer nutrients today then sixty years ago due to soil degradation
sure this could cause problems in internet security, but it's not an existential threat to our species' survival
who gives a f***
The key to your quantum operation should be getting some b****es
The only one not getting f***ed as a species is you!!
Honestly Im still not sure what Quantum computing is. Some code lyoko s***?

Love that you are physically compelled to click on these kinds of threads, but can also recognize which ones are bullshit vs actual issues lol

Actually yes, but without the whole virtual world part. Quantum computing is just the last frontier of computing power technology. The whole thing about how the number of cells in computer chips have doubled every few years since the 80s while chips have been getting smaller... Actual quantum computing makes that whole concept obsolete because the amount of processing power in true QCs would eclipse regular chip processors.
However, quantum computers will likely never be a regular consumer product, at least not in our lifetimes, maybe another century or so. They are currently only used in research and development fields, and housed at universities and labs (and the tech manufacturers working on building the quantum processors).
As one of the users alluded to above with the post mentioning security cracking, quantum computers are able to solve incredibly complex tasks or problems a lightning speeds that would take even the highest performance traditional computers years to do. That has to do with the concept of Superposition in quantum physics -- normal computers still process information in binary structure where it can only check for solutions by inputting a 1 or 0, one at time, until it finally gets the correct output.
On the other hand, superposition allows quantum computers to send inputs that are both a 1 AND 0 simultaneously, and the input will "decide" which one to stick with only when it fits the scenario.
Think of it like this:
• If traditional computers were piano players, they would play music by only pressing one key at time on the piano, one after the other.
• If quantum computers were piano players, they would play music by pressing as many keys as they wanted at the same time, creating chords and such to make complex compositions.
Quantum computers will be used to solve very high level and infrastructural tasks that normal computer currently take a very long time to do, such as:
• improving securities for any field that needs them
• creating and updating maps and finding better commute routes for every GPS application and service that people use every day
• financial auditing, monitoring, and actuarial work to account for risk in insurance and loan offices
• mapping genomes, testing DNA samples, running lab tests on specimens, and other med-science tasks that take days to weeks to get results at the moment. (In theory, if lab vendors started using quantum computers in the future, you could get complex lab or bloodwork results on the same day you had samples taken.)
Any other kind of systemic or foundational procedure like the ones above that you dont really think about in your daily life would be exponentially improved by quantum computing.
Of course, it can also be used to make AI absurdly more powerful and in much faster time, which definitely makes some people a bit worried. But if you're not one of those people then that doesn't matter to you, just reap the benefits of the new AI models lol

It’s like an upgrade from basic bits of 0’s and 1’s. It’s super complicated ofc but it uses superposition and uses the numbers between 0 and 1 as well. It’s supposed to be able to solve problems in minutes that could take a present day computer years to solve. These quantum computers are at the stage that the very first computers were in when they took up entire rooms/buildings.
