Never thought about the Oasis comparison but that actually makes a lot of sense, throw a bit more british on it and it could fit right in on Morning Glory, both this and Pieces are pretty great breathers for the whole album (might be why both were singles) that follows a more-so Melodic Hardcore throughout (tho Pieces sounds more like straight up American emo pop)

Whibley, who goes by the nickname Bizzy D, started out in the rap trio the Powerful Young Hustlers when he was 11. His mother encouraged him by giving him a dollar for every song he rapped for her. Before forming Sum 41 he also was part of a Nirvana cover band and a Weezer-like group.

tbh i could hear a bit of weezer & nirvana influence coming through during like, the Underclass Hero era works but didn't know they were fans like that, super tight.

Also yah u might just motivate me to do that, I feel like it would be most interesting to investigate the run of Chuck-Underclass Hero-Screaming Bloody Murder as this seems to be the era most people faze out of the group's history (aka everything post-Does This Look Infected? lol) but also I find it really interesting the, for lack of a better term. "identity crisis"(?) of sorts the band went through between those 3 albums shifting to drastically different stylings with each, from the socially conscious melodic hardcore of Chuck, the semi-return to pop punk roots with mixes of the influences I mentioned earlier in Underclass Hero to the brutal straight up metal break up album Screaming Bloody Murder. Just amazing s*** honestly that needs to get discussed more imho.

that sounds like a great theme thread! like not just band thread but some piece covering all that and giving it justice! will every single letter of that with passion, i know screaming album was loved but the singles were odd to me (so is the artwork) but i have to give it another shot it’s been a while, loved the art for their last one but havnt got to listen to it, i do like the idea of them going full metal tho - who else from their generation is doing it!!!

but i need a new album with more dave, i think he got back in during the making of the last one no? like it was already set and done or was that an album before? losing track here lol

Screaming Bloody Murder's cover definetly aged like s***

It's super bland and honestly corny, deadass looks like it could've been used as an alt. cover for Eminem's Music to be Murderd By albums lmao, which SUCKS bc the album itself withholds the band's most brutal and creative music and imagery and the video for Blood In My Eyes proves the album could be done justice visually

a lot like Rob Zombie films or a lot of Tobe Hooper's work.

Also Dave came back for the comeback album 13 Voices and has stuck with the group since, there's a lot of cool stuff on both 13 Voices and Order in Decline, with 13 Voices being moreso a mix of Underclass Hero alt rock with Bloody Murder metal and Order in Decline just going straight metal but I won't lie - those albums don't have much replay value for me even thought I really appreciate the band still being creative and fresh with ideas. Just didn't end up appealing to me 2 much ¯_(ツ)_/¯
