I remember an interview with Rivers right after White came out taking about the black album like it would have been darker. Maybe they would have actually leaned into the sound of stuff like Queen of Earth.

you’re right that came back to me... not sure what he meant by that tbh, like i said he’s a very mysterious guy in his own way of thinking

  • Jan 2, 2021

i think something doom influenced would be insane

  • Jan 2, 2021

like some crazy guitars but not maladroit or van weezer like something that sounds evil like black sabbath or hell even do a metal album a la metallica, that should be what’s up after ok human and the acoustic album, sounds like a good balance too: soft with ok, hard with van, soft with acoustic and hard with metallica album! keeps us all excited

Aii I dont think I wrote my thought son Death to False Metal on here, but I just relistened to it, and its way better than I remembered I honestly enjoyed every song except Turning Up the Radio, which reminded me a forsaken raditude leftover, but every other song does not disappoint, every single chorus is catchy, love the sad songs with a catchy and upbeat backing to them, which no one does better than Weezer and love seeing them go back to it after the album that sound not be named. I Love Trampoline, Losing my Mind, and Blowin My Stack are my top 3.

Now time for a wacky comparison some of these songs remind me of OK computer, by some I mean two maybe even one which are I'm a Robot and Autopilot ok mainly just I'm a Robot and only because of the lyrics cause nothing remotely sounds like Ok Computer. Ergo this is Weezers Ok Computer.

I would say maybe this is where they come back from Raditude but I know for sure that aint true because I know I dont like Hurley, but it did change my mind from this being an era Weezer releasing "bad" music to Raditude just being a miss, and everything else was fine.

    thank you...

never did a troll thing in my one year experience on ktt, put on so much work to bring quality to music sxn (some posts i had to cut them into 3 to 4 posts because of how much limits i would reach within each)

always being loyal and supportive of s, requested him ideas for the board, requested to be mod to help some cases or just in general, reached out when he was going thru it, barely got replies but that’s ok i did him for him to relate and have support

yet this is what i get i press him one time over something that is absolutely unfair as i didn’t break any rules and im muted and people are like free ithaka but i understand s, that hurts

yea I understand you, S shouldn't have muted you at all or locked this thread, there should be reasons provided why someone got muted or why a thread got locked, at least that will clear up some misunderstanding. But for you getting muted or this thread getting locked has no basis, and shouldn't a thread like this that provides in-depth music discussion be rewarded by being in the sidebar when it's active.

Also unrelated to that I'm relistening to Weezer discog from False Death Metal to Black album, and putting my thoughts in here, and then gonna listen from Blue to Rad and then rank the albums imo.

not many ppl brought on dtfm so that’s a welcome! i myself havnt visited it in so long

that’s funny bc turning up the radio was made right around the transition from red to raditude iirc (rivers still had the mustache) and it was a song written by the fans actually lol, with his guide but still! hell the recording features some of the fans original recordings they sent!

it was done through youtube on his channel

here’s a playlist of all of it if you’re curious to go through it and how it went down, even if you don’t love the song it’s a cool process no one else ever did tbh lol that’s my goat yes:
    youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB6DB0F1773920F9B

dead at how you mention raditude tho you’re right about the sad song comment tho

here’s something about this album you maybe not aware of and might affect your pov: it’s a bit of an odds and ends album

that was the original plan, it was announced as titled as odd and ends and was gonna be composed of songs recorded by the band that never saw the light of the day and remained unknown even for the fans, so that sounded exciting

the concept was influenced by oasis album the masterplan, it wasn’t an album its a compilation of the bands b sides of that time but it’s so beloved and organic in how it plays and because it’s not titled as compilation but has an original title (well taken from one of the songs title included in it and what a song) and an original artwork it’s usually considered as a canon album

rivers is a huge oasis fan and went back to that and wanted to do his take on this, so instead of b sides it would be songs unheard but the rest is similar, original artwork and title (story behind the title is a catchphrase him and his buddies in highschool used to say, so nerdy i love it) however rivers did retouch some of the songs and re-record parts or add some vocals, sooo is it really a compilation or an album hehhh its up in the air, pretty sure general consensus by now it’s that it is an album but i don’t really think it is because despite all these things to back that up - it’s still weird for me to jump from a song wrote and recorded in like 1998? to one done in 2009

like trampoline is from the hiatus era for example, just before green album, when rivers was heavily digging deep in playing nirvana, IT SHOWS DOESNT IT?

im a robot is like 2004 so make believe sessions then stuff like autopilot and odd couple are red era, just throwin some examples to give u the picture - and where you can hear the re-recording is on songs like blowin my stack also a make believe recording sessions left out, the screaming part is SO 2010 rivers tryna bring back some nirvana, make believe rivers was not like that lol that song is def a stand out

but i love odd couple and autopilot, they both similar within their use of synth in a way that sounds so 70s new wave, kraftwerk inspired which isn’t common in weezer lore

see what i mean? love how he subtlety adds some autotune in one of them too, what a genuis discreet fitting move

the ok computer comment is cool, rivers is certainly an admirer if he named the next album ok human! always love your funny comparisons that no one else comes up with and love your conclusion even better! THANK YOU! im so tired and burned out for them getting bad rap for raditude and being a meme when jesus christ you wanna know when was the last time YOUR goat dropped a classic???? (don’t mean you as you lol just for ppl saying that)

@HeyFella what you think of dtfm?

Never thought about the Oasis comparison but that actually makes a lot of sense, throw a bit more british on it and it could fit right in on Morning Glory, both this and Pieces are pretty great breathers for the whole album (might be why both were singles) that follows a more-so Melodic Hardcore throughout (tho Pieces sounds more like straight up American emo pop)

    reeeeeeally beautiful song
