Album was cool, would probably rank somewhere amongst the middle of their discog. Bird with a broken wing/La brea tar pits stand out for me

when i was like 11 i was obsessed over nirvana i picked a guitar and learned about a girl - one time in school bus ride to home island in the sun played and the verses got me in a such mood like daydreaming that the chorus really caught me off guard how instant and loud it hits and idk why the first thing that came to mind is that man they must be nirvana fans for that not that it sounds similar or has the same sound but in retrospective with the knowledge i have now it’s bc island in the sun does play with the “quiet LOUD quiet” formula the pixies invented and nirvana heavily picked from (makes soft verses then go all out on choruses which was new at that time) so unconsciously i think that’s what i picked on and made the connection (that’s kinda of crazy to think about it looking back)

anyway once home i looked up weezer nirvana on google and found this:

and it blew my mind bc at that time like i said i was 11, heavy on nirvana had just picked a guitar to learn about a girl which is a song from the album bleach which is their first album and i loved it and obviously isn’t as popular as never mind or in utero so to find out a band that i thought might be nirvana fans to have them covered a deep random album cut from bleach i was like wow these guys are real ass mfs! no other bands or superstars ever tapped in that it’s usually covers of come as you are, smells like teen spirit, heart shaped box... like irrelevant

then i heard on and off about them here and there but not enough on my radar as in france they aren’t in the pop culture like they are in the us and then i was like 18? i heard pork and beans during a car trip with friends and thought it was rocking but creative - lyrics had lot of character i could tell the guy wasn’t a regular faceless lead singer composer singing boring s*** so that caught my attention artistically speaking

my friend said it’s from the red album and i was like oh huh they got a red album! i knew they had a green one bc that’s where island in the sun is from and that’s their biggest (and prolly only unfortunately) hit in france and bc of the story i just said above so i looked it up and thought it was so creative had it on repeat for weeks - red was all i could listen to then i bought the deluxe physically not knowing if it was gonna be as good but i was like i love all the songs so it can’t be that far off! and little did i know the treat i was in for man

Shiit man that's crazy, I wish I was into music more that young I really didn't start digging into it crazy till I eas like maybe 14
I like that connection you made about the quiet verses loud choruses though I never picked up on that tbh, also love about a girl, such a good song I reallt only dug into nevermind and in eutero so I definitely have to go back to bleach soon

    radiohead has two of them

if weezer best stuff can’t get any 4s is because they’re a scum community elitist full of s*** who treats art as something depressing and serious or weird artsy in order to be great

there are elitist people in every community (rym might have more than most it probably does idk) but like the way people were talking I thought they were giving it a really bad score not like a 7/10

that's higher than what I'd give it

This album has beautiful arrangements and great melodies. I just wish the lyrics were stronger. Solid effort overall though.

    a 6 isn't bad imo

    like 1-4 is terrible-bad

    5 is okay

    6-10 is good-perfect

    fair enough

some backstories to some songs makes the lyrics comes out better - such as dead roses

love mirror image and numbers tho both lyrically sumptuous

I honestly think it’s some of Rivers strongest lyrics. Numbers, Mirror Image, and Dead Roses especially

Sure but there’s certainly a good chunk of people in online music circles that fit his description. I get it tho, there’s totally still plenty of folks who just sincerely don’t like anything they’ve released since Pinkerton.

yeah i know what hes referring to its just lame to call an entire website scum and insult their perception of art because the majority of them dont like an album as much as you do
