wasnt sure about tagging you but i was tryna think n guess who on ktt2 would be looking for power pop and felt like you would be into that

my pleasure! if you want more after that as rvi mentioned here above with his feedback (but the origin of the conversation is from another thread i believe) tthe there’s this really cool OG powerpop album from 1979 by a one man band made in studio, it didn’t take off so now it gets more following bc power pop has a strong fan base but it’s still obscure, here’s my fav songs off of it

I love The Toms. Do you like Shoes? Not all of their stuff is streaming, but I'd highly recommend them.

idk fam i always considered them the definition of power pop and wiki just confirmed they are considered "the quintessential power pop band" but go off telling me im wrong yet again sis

im not saying anyone is wrong, neither you or wiki, and big star since they’re one of the earliest bands probably put the seeds onto what made power pop what it is or became (but then how far can we go onto that? aren’t beatles and beach boys power pop dads for that matter?) im just saying they don’t fit on what i define power pop as in its traditional way

im assuming you know all the other cool stuff then, the rubinoos etc etc

funny story the original title was gonna be: “everything will be alright in the end except you die”

traces of that still can be find in the liner notes of the album:

    (eyd for except you die)

this opened a rabbit hole for me, spent the last hour reading weezerpedia. love this band sm

Not tryna hear anything from that c*** Pete anymore. Last interview he was saying it's was better for the band that Moon and Entwistle died the best rythm section that ever was. F*** outta here.

i do like their new songs ! and i tend to like/respect any direction the band goes in, rivers is just too great of a songwriter. that said, i am biased towards emo genre, so PINKERTON is my favorite

🟦 VIDEO OF THE DAY 🟦

weezer performing “In The Garage” during their opening set for Lush in 1994

poster of a show from the tour

photo of weezer in 1994 with Patrick Wilson on the far left rocking a Lush shirt

RAD: What bands have you enjoyed touring with?
Pat: We did Lush...our first big tour was Lush last summer and that was great. I mean, they were awesome. I would watch them every night and they just sounded amazing.

    Patrick Wilson interview from 1995

Miki Berenyi -singer guitarist songwriter for Lush- is even featured on The Rentals second studio album (The Rentals is the band formed by Matt Sharp -seen on photo above in middle with the brown shirt- after he left weezer)

also a nice acoustic performance of In The Garage at a record store, 1994:

    so vulnerable ...

    ah, yes... raditude.....

well hey i warmed u told u there was a low point ahead but it picks up afterwards

lmao especially this song man this has to be in my top most hated weezer songs next to i’m your daddy - funny story i got a close friend into weezer one time and he REALLY loved the f*** outta i’m your daddy and one time during car ride he was driving he had his gf next to him i was in the back with my back then gf and another friend and somehow he brought up weezer and said all he had loaded was my name is jonas and i’m your daddy and asked me which one to play i never answered with a more straight serious face in my life before with my name is jonas, he wanted to play i’m your daddy so bad, dodged massive humiliation bullet there and long minutes of explications to do ...

    ugh

idk y brought this hindu stuff, maybe the peace n love sixties movement, echoing beatles trip idk, but at least it sounds new i guess, he went to try new sounds there lol... that’s the best i can say lmao

i don’t want to let you go is nice tho, my fav is def the deluxe song “run over by a truck” that comes from the red album sessions iirc? incredible slept on song imo

    good luck tho

id recommend to jump forward onto “everything will be alright in the end” tho
